Apart from the hair length, you've hardly changed Mary !

A lovely photo.

We've been digging out photo's for my long-lost brother, and have just found one of mine and Jan's Church wedding blessing. Me with shoulder length hair.

Not sure about posting it on here, though !

That was my daughter on Friday night. I now have to dig out the Summer Ball photo of me at the same age, scan and post it. NOT the same thing at all.

I won't tell her this, she would be horrified.

As a geneticist, all I can say is: that will be my opening slide for my course :) :)

I thought it was your daughter before reading the later posts - we didn't have such nice wellies in the seventies.

But what exactly is it that you know now?

Could the useful advice have been dress length?

I was asked to a ball at Oriel College Oxford by a fabulous Younger Man. Naturally, I was in despair about what to wear. Didn't Oxford Girls wear wonderfully designery long gowns?

The advice from my escort was brief. "Go short". As it happened, I had a little strapless black-and-white ruffled mini party dress. Well into the wild dancing, I saw what my escort meant. The girls in the long-and-elegants were seriously impeded as they tripped over, were trodden on by other wild dancers, and slowed, as the pace of the night became more frenetic.

Then, as the shrubberies and undergrowth became alive with heaving couples and, er, threesomes, I could see that the long dresses were a) cumbersome and b) ruined.

So lucky, Mary, that you were able to advise on all this! Helen Rose looks great.

I have round grey eyes with a deep lid, Helen has her Dad's almond shaped brown eyes with an epicanthic fold.

I had (age has withered me here) full lips, Helen has narrow lips with a thin top lip.

I have a high forehead, Helen has a low forehead (hence the fringe).

I (and her Dad) have large ear lobes, Helen doesn't even have room to have her ears pierced.

I have (and had) a considerably larger upper deck) My niece has got it where my sister hasn't.

We do share a blood group B negative, and the legs.

Yes Angela I wore a very dowdy long dress to a Victorian themed summer Ball, Helen really rocks the Victorian Gothic look I think. N.B. They are my ankle boots. I wonder if I will ever get to wear them again?

It has only taken me 13 hours

Summer Ball 1975

and when you have all picked yourselves up off the floor, even at the time Barry thought this dress was a mistake, and get those eyebrows (or lack of).

Not sure why all the wavy lines, they aren't on the original.

I think this might be appropriate for this thread -----

Quorn Hunt Ball 1949 ------

NTN is dancing with a lovely Lady, when he catches sight of a Blonde, looking over the edge of the Balcony ------

NTN is totally smitten and asks "Who IS that ? answer -- Virginia Vyse"

"Introduce me" ---- and she did.

If I had known then, what I know now -------

V. V. was my first wife ----- !!!!!

I'm sure that lends itself to inappropriate comments about being caught in a vise, but I wouldn't dream of going there NTN !!
