Surely just mounting the examination table would have been painful enough, even if you had started out in perfect health!

My father had kidney stones and was fed a diet? of Mackeson's in Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, until he passed them.lonelymom wrote:Thank God I passed mine naturally, after being kept on hospital bed-rest for 3 days (with a catheter - yuk!) and being forced to drink copious amounts of water to flush them through!
I claim that is why I drink Guiness or "dark" beers, as preventive medicine.

On the subject of the 'back-passage' examination, one of my cousins when a staff-sergeant in the army had to undergo a full examination whilst serving abroad. When it came to the 'drop-em and bend over' routine, the medical major approached saying.........
"Now then Sergeant - There's absolutely no need to worry, unless of course, you feel both my hands on your shoulders !!"
Very comforting !

I remember a lovely old patient, who chortled over another patients luxuriant sideboards
"B*ggers' Grips!"

That was my local hospital when I was younger! But when I had my stones I was in Maidstone Hospital and I only got water! I feel like I've been cheated!!jhopgood wrote:My father had kidney stones and was fed a diet? of Mackeson's in Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, until he passed them.lonelymom wrote:Thank God I passed mine naturally, after being kept on hospital bed-rest for 3 days (with a catheter - yuk!) and being forced to drink copious amounts of water to flush them through!

The NHS is not what it was - but then it probably never was!
