Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

Christmas Guessing Game

Post by michael scuffil »

There are five pairs of brothers on this photograph. Your identifications are invited. The winner with the most correct identifications will be announced on Christmas Eve. The first prize will be a week at CH in the 50s. The second prize will be two weeks...

I presume that this is Thornton B in your time, Michael? I think I can recognise my brother, but I have got so used to seeing him without hair that recognising him with dark hair is strange!

I trust you won't cheat by asking Peter, Katharine.

(By "identification" I meant of course as brothers, not by name.)

Your brother is dark, Katharine? I've always though of your whole family as blonde, like you!

Hurah Christmas has arrived on te forum, not a moment too soon, not a moment too late! (And correctly spelled too, sigh, advantages of agreat education, I suppose. )

Any way, this should be fun as I had no brothers at CH, only knew, in person so to speak, one boy from the Latin Club for one torrid teenage summer of distant pash so this is pure guesswork basee mostly on ears and grins!

BTW - am happy to donate any prize I win to charity!

1 2nd on left in third row from front and 1st on the right. third row from the front.
2 1st on the right 2nd row from front and 2nd on right 5th row from front. (AKA back row!!)
3 5th from left first row and 3rd on teh right fourth row from the front.
4 5th on left back row (AKA drainpipe head)and either 1st on right front row or 4th on left first row.
5 1st on the left 4th row from the front and 3rd on the right 4th row from the front.

And no, I have absolutely nothing else that I wish to do this morning! (Plenty that I should but nothing else that I wish  )

Good idea. I'll donate 50 GBP to the charity of the winner's choice. So you have something worthwhile to play for.

My only cheating, if it is that, Michael, is to be able to rule one person out as he did not have a brother in Th B!

Will it be like Mgic FM and you'll tell us how many we got right?

Wasn't being rude about the one week two week prizes, I know a lot of people who'd like the whole Mallory Towers/Billy Bunter/Famous Five experience for a week after sadly having been day schoolers!

(In fact CH could let out rooms and dorms like Oxford & Cambridge in summer hols!!)

Not having been in that house I only know of one pair of brothers there - and one of them I didn't know.

As for the other, I've just spent a long time comparing a photo of someone in scout uniform plus beret (so I cannot even judge the hair) and come to the conclusion that back row left (or less likely 4th row 4 from the right) is the other brother that I know of - PJH. That might give someone a clue.
Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

Well, there are all those empty houses at Hertford just waiting for someone to lease them ............................

who would be interested in running weekends for people with nothing better to do, er, I mean, wealthy anoraks who would be sad enough to pay enough to make it worth our while, er, anyone who is willing to cough up whatever we would see fit to charge?

We'd have to do a considerable amount of maintenance and redecorating, starting with bluebelling the window catches back to life, then reinstalling a rusting ladder down the outside of the end walls to be the only means of escape in case of fire..

Activites? Well, midnight feasts of course. Walks to the meads, but only if we could source enough chapel caps for everyone - so that no-one would miss out on being able to use them for catching frogs.

Anyone willing to donate toe nails and fag ends for inclusion in any apple pie and custard that might be served? And we would, of course, just have to have fish bones in parsley sauce served for at least one meal.

Sorry guys: starting to hyperventilate, so had better have a quick lie down.

Smashing idea, Caroline!

This deserves a thread of its own. Hertford Holidays Inc.?

Guests arriving on a Friday evening would be just in time for Choir Practice. Then, roused from the horsehair mattress by bell at 0700hrs, ready for Prayers at 0720hrs. Chapel at 0900hrs...

Weekends would attract penitents mostly, but there'd be the sports contingent for All Out on Saturday. Matches! Then those behind with their correspondence would welcome enforced letter writing Sunday afternoon.

Who'd go to some luxury spa when Hertford Holidays Inc. could show them how wonderful their everyday life really is? Don't get me onto the underwear...

Back to the Guessing Game!

Oh dear, Hertford underwear has hijacked the most unlikely thread

We should sneak in at least one needlework lesson for the masochists and guttersnipes.

Oh, and a bed making lesson or two. No duvets at Hertford lads and lassies. Now, let's see your infirmary corners.

Spud bashing on Sunday morning. Anti-nausea medication for the weak of stomach, to counteract the idiosyncratic odour of the kitchens. There is a malaysian company that synthesises odours - any volunteers to describe what we need and then sniff test their efforts?

And, just to bring this almost back on topic - Holly Burning.

Ladies, please.... (I will desist from quoting John Knox.)

The prize is serious, and insider knowledge is unwanted. Compare physiognomies, and present your answers thus:

1. row X / 3 from r + row Y /2 from l
2. or: row X / far r + row Z / far l
3. ...
4. ...
5. ...

Number rows from the front.

Incidentally the Steggles were in ThA and they were twins. There are no twins here.
