I only got as far as silver and must have failed it because I do not remember any presentation or on checking the loft cannot find any such item.
In 1976 I went to snowdonia for the D of E award ,with a group of scouts in tow, "Bo " was their leader.
It was memorable !
On arrival we pitched our tents on the side of a hill.
As a first timer, me and another 5H1tshoveller without thinking positioned our tent opening at the tents highest point.
My mate got up during the night for a p*ss ,I do not remember who it was which is a shame, but the flow ended up coming back into said tent.
That night a we also had alot of precipitation, whereupon a river decided also to go through said tent. Needles to say we did not stay very dry.
"Bo" took pitty on us and let us hang up our possessions etc, eccept the tent , in the staff hut to dry out on the hot pipes.
He continued smoking his pipe I recall.
The following day we tried to climb the "Devils Kitchen" about a mile away but it rained excessively all day and put me off North Wales.
I went back for a wedding in later life because i had too.
Days later we attempting Snowdon. I twisted my ankle coming down and had to be carried down to the staff hut.
At about 16 stone it must have been so much fun for the staff. No helicopters around in them days.
That was the end of my duke of edinburgh award, and I ended for the remaining days being a "staff helper " instead.
The first night as the only atudent mixing with the staff "Bo" let me have plenty of canned alcohol and I threw up.
To my knowledge that was the first time I remember getting p*ssed.
Thanks Mr Shippen
Its now a good memory and "Bo" although I was one of worst students I loved your geography lessons .

Well done ! and Congratulations !

I am "Slightly" (!!!) too old to have participated in the DofE Awards, but I did do some traing of young ladies, for the cross-country Walk and Camp.

In those days, the Girls did not have to carry their own Tents -- which I thought was a bit "Sexist", but one young Lady --- now with two schoolchildren of her own, has never forgiven me for walking them through the path, along the edge of a Cornfield ------- resulting in scratched Thighs ! (Of which she was, justifiably proud !)

TBA and her Sister were the Advance Party, which moved Tents and Kit to the next Rendesvous, and acted as Chaperones.
