CH on Microsoft Live Search mapping

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

CH on Microsoft Live Search mapping

Post by jtaylor »

Google maps hasn't yet covered CH with high quality images, but the new Microsoft Live Search mapping has:-

Nice to see CH in all its glory....

The 3D views in London and other major areas are stunning - try New York....

Anyone know what's being built behind the sports centre (at the time the photo was taken)?

Good to see but Google is still better on Spain, and probably most places except the US.

This isn`t a recent picture - you can see the work being started on the Grecians houses.
The "work" by the sports centre is where they dumped all the soil from digging out the main car park, now all nicely greened over. I think at one point it was going to become a running track.

I would guess that pic was probably taken from the summer of 1998, my Deps as they had started to build the Grecians's houses iirc... also, the 'running track' carpark looks pretty new / not quite finished...

Notice that there is no 'Grange Hill' in the Art School - the Art School bogs are still there... they were demolished in the Easter holidays of 1999 I think...

Bearing in mind that the google earth photos are from summer last year (I can tell that from the state of my roof, which was fixed in January this year), it makes you wonder how Bill Gates has the nerve to call it Live.

I just had a look at a location near Guildford on Microsoft's thing - image is from before 2002, probably by a year or more, but then so is the one on Google!

That was probably the access road they built to get the vehicles used for building the Grecians' houses into the site...

ah, the access road is more towards Whapplegate...

that track you were looking at was used by PGL in the summer to drive quad bikes around...

For the uninitiated, PGL are a teenagers holiday camp that used the school in the summer for a few years...

PGL is Parents Get Lost. My daughter has done a couple of them. The children come back about 3 years older than they went, it is quite amazing, "I ate this, I did that", will they eat this or do that at home? will they heck!
