Seems to be some sort of insult - I'm lost.J.R. wrote:Probably from France !Mid A 15 wrote:Good job once again John!
My only observation is that there no longer appears to be a letters page.
Maybe nobody has written to you though!

Incidentally, nice bit about police with criminal records for assault, theft etc. (especially in the Met) in the Times today

Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

I'll let you know what I think of it when my copy arrives. I've only recently got registered with CHA after a couple of abortive attempts, and I received the August 2006 OB last week, so I'll probably have to wait a while for the latest one.

I'm sorry about the aborted attempts to 'join' the CHA, Midget. Actually all Old Blues are automatically members... so I wonder what went wrong in your case?
Were you a member of the OGA - which then transmuted itself into the CH Club - which in turn got swallowed up by the CHA? If so, then something must have gone wrong along the line, and I can only say that, as the former Chair of the OGA, I am sorry about that. I wonder how many others have been similarly affected...(or disaffected?).

That's because by 1990 Old Blues could only be members of the CH Club (the OGA stopped recruiting when Hertford closed, and many of its members joined the CH Club separately). But you should have had at least one (if not two.....) year(s) of 'free' membership of the CH Club after you left school, before they started asking you for an annual subscription. Now that the CH Club has been subsumed into the CHA, you are automatically a member of the CHA (for free), whether or not you had previously paid to be a member of the Club.
Sounds complicated, but...!!

I took a decision, which I can always change, to include any correspondence in the appropriate section. Lots of people write prompted by some article, so why not spread the correspondence out so that there is some coherence.Mid A 15 wrote:Good job once again John!

I know that few magazines or newspapers do this, but why not experiment at this stage until we see what people are happy with.
I get a fair amount of e-mails and the occasional letter, which Wendy now has the dubious pleasure of translating from hieroglyphics to Word document. (Lots of frustrated doctors out there).
I try to include as much as I can, whilst still keeping the main thrust of articles that are of interest to large groups of Old Blues, rather than incidents that whilst very interesting, only mean something to a much smaller number.
Its all very subjective, but the only real complaint I have was along the lines:
"the paper is too glossy, the style is too slick, the article about Everest has nothing to do with the school, not a major achievement, makes the OB look like a travel brochure and promotes racism because the photo only features the two (white) pupils and not the supporting sherpas…."
So you see, I do get correspondence, just don't publish it all and hide the rest.

With regard to the complaint above, the only possible reply is "Oh dear"!
My failure to join Cha was almost certainly my own fault. I had wiped all memories of CH after I failed at medicine, and upset DR in the process. I kept in touch through Maureen Harding, but nothing "official". Never mind, here I am now.
The Old Blue arrived today- I like it.
