Foureyes sees everything as all or nothing. CH will find a way to make things work without the highly bureaucratic system he seems to be advocating.

As for the difficulties, they have arisen because this is the first OB Day organised by the CHA. It is not simply a question of doing it as we have always done in the past. There are new financial, departmental and legal constraints of which Foureyes is apparently (and quite excusably) unaware.

I repeat, it behoves us as OBs to try and make this day work and not to create more difficulties - God knows there seem to be enough already! I do agree that it would be manifestly appalling if any OB were to arrive unregistered and be treated in the surly way he envisages. This must not and will not happen.

I agree also that it is clearly impossible to have a cast iron security on the day. All we can do is to ask OBs to appreciate that the school has a duty of care towards its pupils; if there is anything we can do to make things easier in this regard, I am sure it would be much appreciated.

As for making us welcome, the invitation for us to attend comes from the Headmaster. If anyone is in any doubt about the sincerity of the school's welcome, they have only to read Peter Southern's warm words of welcome on the invitation. If there are any misgivings in certain quarters, I do not know of them.

Wow, I have unleashed the hornets it appears...

I hope that a lot of people will come - especially Young Old Blues... but I feel the pre-registering maybe a bit off-putting - I can understand why it's there of course.

I will certainly start a Facebook event for the day - I am 'friends' with over 100 Old Blues on there... that may help...

I think if there was a Scout Camp (yes JR - I was in the Scouts) as there has been in the past on the Saturday night, that would interest more OB's as well!

RIGHT ! Old Blues Day.

I have just received my copy of 'The Old Blue', which asks me to fill in the application form enclosed for Old Blues Day.

No form enclosed, so I'll e-mail the office.

Was this a deliberate mistake, John ?

as for security well the secutrity office have on a number of occasions asked me what im doing on the school site! when i have been cutting over little side to see dad or going into the gate past Peele and had someone come over the intercom asking for id of who i am! I lived there, went to school there and dad works there. If they cant identify their own staff and family what hope do they have for hundreds of old blues!

Not a deliberate mistake, more a question of coordination.
The Old Blue, which has yet to reach Spain, was printed early February, to be dispatced by mid February. At that time the leaflet still required fine tuning. In an effort to get it right we missed the deadline and decided to send out the Old Blue without the leaflet, in the full knowledge that everyone would notice the error, but that we could still send out the leaflet with Housey in Mid March.
BTW, do you get the e-Newsletter, which explains it much better?
So, better late and right than wrong and on time.
Don't e-mail

As with the OBD application form, the advert for the CHA Board nominations should have had the date changed before printing, but it must have fallen off the radar screen. Not an acceptable excuse but these things happen.

Anyone thinking of putting their name forward should do pdq. I know there was going to be a telephone conference to consider nominations in the middle of March, but feel sure the date will have to be pushed back.

We have a telephone conference once a month and up to 3 face to face meetings a year, so a lot of discussion takes place via e-mail, meaning that there must be lots of candidates on the forum. Of course you might get roped in to help with events and other matters, but then you wouldn't be putting your name forward if you thought it was just a talking shop.

So lets be having you!

As for the Newsletter, the office had a very old e-mail address of mine in the database so the latest was the first I got. If you have an e-mail address and want to receive the newsletter, I suggest you e-mail Zoe or Wendy so that they can put your latest address in whatever database they use for sending out the newsletter.

That's happened to me before - luckily the head of security is a contemporary of me at school!

rather than read trhough the 117 replies about this topic can i ask who is actually going to be going to Old Blues day this year?
I am probably not going to go to day itself! although i am planning on being around CH on that day so if there are some of you around maybe we could have a little gathering so that i could finally put faces to names!

I am going to try. Haven't been in 10 years so perhaps I should give it a go.
