Bin Liner is probably already hiding in the US. It's big enough !huntertitus wrote:This is becoming a grumpy old men post

Have any of you noticed how everyone is down on America but given the choice of living anywhere in the middle east or the USA I know where I'd be running to and so would 100% of the anti US brigade.

Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

I really don't understand why most old people can't accept that being old is fine.sejintenej wrote:at 47 you can speak for yourself; at a bit more I don't consider myself old - just a little more experienced .....huntertitus wrote:This is becoming a grumpy old men post

They seem to be the people who do the menial and underpaid jobs that no-one here wants to do. Working hard (and being exploited sometimes) to support your family back home. Not an ethos that we grow up with in this country ...J.R. wrote:They're all freeloading, scrounging, ex communist States that see us a damn good meal ticket.

I'm sorry cj, but this isn't strictly true.cj wrote:They seem to be the people who do the menial and underpaid jobs that no-one here wants to do. Trades Unions, (like 'em or hate 'em), have for years struggled for a fair days pay for a fair days work, and we now have the minimum wage structure.
The Poles, with building skills, flood over here, and work in the black economy, undercutting our workers who were earning a wage their unions had negotiated long ago !
I can give you examples here in Surrey, of workers being bussed in from North London, unable to even speak English who's employers have under-cut building firms already working on jobs. It's happened to our son in law twice, who is a time served plasterer, and a damn good one ! He's had his job pulled from under his feet twice in the last nine month by these Poles, so don't tell me they are flooding here to do the jobs the English won't do. Twice, our Grand-Children have suffered at the hands of these so called asylum seekers so please allow me my hate and disdain !

When I saw the episode where mobile phones were vilified I expressed concern to anyone who would listen that I had become a GOM. Then, thank goodness, along came Grumpy Old Women.

Point taken. However, I still give my vote to the country which Billy Connolly described as paradise, even though we now have to fear death by stingray, in addition to redbacks, funnelwebs, brown snakes, white pointers .................

Well - it does rather depend upon where you go when you're dead (if indeed you go anywhere ) - but that's another topic entirely. I would concur that growing old is good - you've usually got a bit more money - a bit more sense - you've tried a lot of the vile things that you wanted to try when you were young - and now you pretty much know what you like...huntertitus wrote:It's a hell of a lot better than being dead!
I'm guessing that you are referring to Australia - can't comment - never been there - but also never met someone who has been there and didn't love it to bits.icomefromalanddownunder wrote:I still give my vote to the country which Billy Connolly described as paradise, even though we now have to fear death by stingray, in addition to redbacks, funnelwebs, brown snakes, white pointers .................
Incidentally last night I dreamt that we visited Billy Connolly on a small island in Northern Scotland where he had a house and he was trying to persuade me to buy some land up there. He's actually a really nice down to earth bloke - and makes a really tasty stew......
And finally - I would rather live in the Middle East than America. There are many lovely countries and places and people over there - unfortunately the image of war torn Iraq and nutty Iran tends to colour a whole region that is as diverse as Europe.
What was this thread about again???

I lived in the US for 4 years, and there are lovely parts of and friendly people, just like anywhere else.
The US was built on welcoming strangers and tolerance (unless you are Mexican or black) and that is why they cannot understand extremism. Most of them can't even understand Christian extremism.
