If this is the ringtone they played on Radio 4 recently, it can be heard by a significant number of people older than teenage - including me!!

I can't hear it but I can feel it.
My 20 year old son can hear at and it makes him feel sick, my 17 year old daughter cannot hear it at all.

14 year old said it hurt her ears - she couldn`t listen to it . 17 year old said it was just a high-pitched noise, but nothing annoying - I heard only the background noise in the clip.
(But then I AM too old to be using "LOL" in messages according to my daughter!!)
