Being an only child and bought up to maturity from the age of 11 at Horsham, I have always found it hard to be a cuddly-huggy person, and consequently, I think our daughters suffered slightly.
The addition of four Grand-Children has changed all this, as luckily, they are all cuddle-bugs.
Strangely enough, at a footy tournament last weekend, eldest Grand-Daughter and I, (she's 14 and a strapping beauty), were walking to the refreshment stand, arms around each other, and I felt extremely proud and somewhat humbled at some of the admiring glances, even if there one or two glances which could be contrued as doubtful !

I think the cuddle thing is an age thing. We used to get into my parents bed on Christmas morning and my sister (8 years younger) would get into mine during my holidays from CH but I am far more tactile with my parents now than I was as a child and far more tactile with my children too.
Husband took daughter (17 and a stunner) to a black tie do last week, don't know if they got any 'funny' looks.

Thankfully my dad has been doing this for almost ten years, and he's never had any incidents where his conduct has been called into question. His pupils have hugged him, and he does occasionally clip one round the ear I think, although that is very rare, and only when he knows it will not rebound on him. Often, this is not a disciplinary measure, more a 'you're being silly' kind of gesture.
However, he has noticed that a lot of the girls seem to have been advised that the male teachers (there are three in his school) should be watched, and that any seemingly 'untoward' contact is a good context for legal action or otherwise. It is surprisingly scary how well informed the kids seem at their age about what the teachers can and cannot do. My dad suspects the parents are in it for any possible gain they can get out of it.
The teaching profession is crying out for vibrant young people like you. If you do pursue it as a career, I hope you find it fulfilling.

thinking back to when i was in primary school, hugs did help to reassure that i was ok and that whatever happened wasn't the end of the world. it would be very unrealistic to tell female teachers that they have to fight off the "cuddle-bugs".
so i think we're all in agreement that, with marked examples, female 'harrassment' of male pupils does not really exist (except, possibly, in male fantasy).
and as long as any other relationships are between two consenting adults, i really wish the government, the tabloids and everyone else would stay out of it.
i'm shagging one of my students. but the age difference isn't vast, we are both adults, my parents have no problem with it, hers haven't either and the other teachers and students are largely indifferent. why should anyone else give a toss?

J.R., you don't need a visa, it's the EU (since 96). what is surprising though is that if you want to become a teacher you need a full CRB check but if you want to go abroad and be a language assistant, nobody checks anything! even if it's a girl's school for 14+ where hormones flow like rivers.
it's not to late to get posted JR, there was a guy from my course who ended up teaching in my area and he's about 70!
