Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

Death of Ian Atkinson in 2022

Post by Doctor Smellcroft »

I learnt this evening that the Rev Ian Atkinson (Assistant Chaplain at CH Horsham 1970-1985) died in May 2022.

His book A Life in Sermons was published in November last year:

As far as I can recall, his death hasn't previously been reported.

Thank you for that information, I had a lot of respect for Ian Atkinson. He seemed like a vicar who actually believed, even in the late 1970s a bit of a surprise. He taught me Latin which I struggled with in the Third Form (iirc) and he was delighted when I told him I'd got an 'A' at O-level. I remember how he mentioned Anglesey as being a refuge for the native Brits when fighting the Romans, and then slipped in 'like the IRA use the Republic of Ireland'.

I will buy that book.
