Old Blue Rugby 'Blues'
On the day of the Oxford v Cambridge varsity match I wondered how many we have had and how recently.
I cannot think of any Old Blue male pupils within the past 50 years or so. The late Geoff Hines being the most recent to my knowledge. I am aware of some Rugby Blue CH Masters: TGR Davies, WPC Davies and Peter Warfield come to mind.
I am also aware that Women have played their own varsity match for 30 years or so and, given that I've read that CH Girls have had some decent 7s teams, could any girls have earned a Blue?
Can anybody elaborate?

I am sure John Cullen and Bill Biddell were Cambridge blues in the early 80s.
Re: Old Blue Rugby 'Blues'
In spite of the recent event at Twickenham, why limit this thread to Rugby? So then we could have mention of Cricket (and DRW Silk). Why stop there? There are Rowing, etc (and even Tiddly Winks) to consider.

Well remembered!
I should have thought of those particularly Cullen who I believe wasn't that far away from an England trial as a scrum half. I think he played for London and South East back in the days divisional sides played the touring countries.

What do you mean “even Tiddly Winks(sic)”. As a member of a team that made it to the second round (okay, it was a bye) of the 1964 Silver Wink competition I place the sport at the same level as Rugby and Cricket. Let’s face it: all sports are pretty dumb when viewed objectively.

95% sure Simon Wilson (? son of Roger Wilson, Staff) got a Blue in goal for Hockey for Cambridge in the mid 80s. Given how inept we were at men's hockey it isn't a surprise our only Blue in living memory was a keeper - he'd have had a lot of practice...

G W Hines LB 51-59 was an Oxford Blue 1963 and 1964 I recall or thereabouts and an England Triallist in ~1964 - as well as playing for Rosslyn Park - & Zambia in I think the Currie Cup. Maybe J Launchbury will go on now to Oxford....in a worthy tradition?

I have recalled the name. I think the OB who rowed in the Boat-race and became President of CUBC was Dingle. Any further info?John Saunders wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2017 4:27 pm There was a Cambridge rowing Blue in the 50's.I think he also became President. Name began with D
