WORLD WAR ONE GUNS
In reading backnumbers of 'The Blue' (as one does) I came across a statement in the November 1919 issue that a German trench mortar and field gun had been presented to the Officer Training Corps as a memento of the school's contribution to the late war. They were, it seems, positioned at either end of the Quarter Mile. These would have been largish lumps of ironmongery and were, presumably, mounted and attached to some form of plinth. I am reasonably certain that they were not there in the 1950s, but has anyone ever heard of them and know what might have happened to them?

Not there post-WW2 but the woods at each end of the Quarter Mile were known as East Gun Copse and West Gun Copse. Never knew why.

That is brilliant. It had never crossed my mind to correlate the gun info with those two names. I am sure you must be right.

I agree, that's clever.
I imagine they were melted down for the war effort.

If they were on plinths, as they probably were, it might be woth investigating to see if there are any traces.
