Re: I can understand
I did have very dark hair (now mostly grey!) and my CH daughter is quite "tanned" all year round; we found out about 3 years ago that our "born in India" Colonial family are actually Anglo-Portugese-Indian about 7 generations back. Do we start stating "other" on the ethnicity forms or carry on saying "White British"???!!They seem to equate social mobility with money. Were those the values that CH tried to instil?
I too was tempted to tick the box that says: 300,000+, in the way that my daughter, an English rose if ever there was one, always states her ethnicity to be Afro-Caribbean. But I decided it wasn't worth the postage.

Re: I can understand
When I was working for Plessey, in South Africa, we had a chap, playing darts with us in the "White" Canteen, who appeared to be very Black.
I noticed another chap with red hair, blue eyes and sunburn, who entered the Factory via the "Coloured" entrance.
I queried a friend of mine, how could this be ?
He replied "It's not your colour -- it's what the Government SAYS is your family origin ! "
Mrs Botha, the Prime Minister's wife, was rarely photographed, most old Boer families had "Coloured" blood in them --- for obvious reasons !
What a mad and wierd system !!!

Last season we had a guy playing for us who was obviously of 'mixed-race'. Very African in appearance, though coffee rather than ebony, BUT he has the most piercing blue eyes.
