RIP Carol Stevens (nee Rayson) - 3's
Some Hertford OB's may remember Carol, who was in the year above me.
Along with Kathleen Duncan (Dale) she went on to become an active member of the Council of Almoners and she was instrumental in the establishment of the Christ's Hospital Association (now CHOBA).
Sadly, after a very short illness, she passed away last Wednesday, 8 September.
The funeral is in Amersham on Tuesday 21 September - PM me if you are interested in the details.

I remember Carol well, she entered the school the same day as me. I don't think we were ever in the same class.

Shocked is all I can say as she was on the CHA Board etc at the beginning as was I. (and Kerren).
Regrettably I fly back to Spain that day.

Very sorry to hear this news - with John and Carol I was on the CHA Board with Carol from the outset, and she was instrumental in establishing the CHA and helping it find its feet.
A big loss to CH, with her passion for everything it stood for.
Thoughts and prayers to those she's left behind.

I'm sorry to hear this sad news. I admit I haven't given her a thought for nearly 50 years, but wasn't Carol a Senior Mon(itress) in 5s for its last two terms as a junior house, coming over from 3s to help manage us? The other one was Jean Sulston, also from 3s I think.

Mary - I am not sure whether Carol was your Senior Mon. Hilary Evans, 6s, was a Senior Mon in 5s for the Autumn term of 64 and the Spring term 65, then left to take up a place at Norland College, returning to sit her A levels in the Summer.

What terrible news.
I've a feeling that Carol Rayson was one of Miss Morley's LCC CH Scholarship Girls at Richard Atkins Junior Girls School; a few years ahead of me.
I'm sure her name is familiar. This is very sad.

You're right, Katharine: it was Hilary and Jean. I wonder why I thought that - was she SM for 1s perhaps?Katharine wrote:Mary - I am not sure whether Carol was your Senior Mon. Mary - 1's had Doreen Buvyer (?spelling?) also 6s and Elizabeth Richards 7s and my fellow Mathematician. I'm trying to remember what Carol did, she may have been a House Mon or a DR's Mon - I know Jack Clarke was DR's while her twin, Gill, was House Mon in 3s.

That's the correct spelling for Doreen Buvyer. I remember distinctly, as I admired her greatly for her habit of gliding gracefully everywhere - like some serene Madonna - light brown hair parted demurely in the middle and tied back - how could a grown-up girl be so wonderful?Katharine wrote:Mary - 1's had Doreen Buvyer (?spelling?) also 6s and Elizabeth Richards 7s and my fellow Mathematician. Elizabeth Richards came to I's to read us "Three Men In A Boat" at bedtime on a Sunday night. Short brown hair, rosy cheeks; aloof, yet kind.
I arrived in 6's expecting the Senior Girls to be marvellous - oh! what a horrible disillusionment!
