Failing ofsted!

I had a quick look at the report in a quiet moment at CAB today. I chuckled at the one about the lack of window restrictors on the first floor of the sick bay (I think that's what it says).
I hope no one tells them that a group of boys in my time (probably still do) scaled all the large buildings at CH (Big School, Chapel etc) during the early hours of the morning. Ofsted would probably demand razor wire around the buildings to prevent such behaviour.

and we used to lower pupils tied to stretchers from the flat roofs over the stairs at the side of Lamb A without any adult supervision. That exercise was specifically authorised by staff.

Sorry I didn't realise that other people didn't realise that you only need to "fail" in one area to be "given notice to improve", I think the ofsted thing is a completely farce from complete begining to end.

Same with my childminder she had to get outstanding for every single section to get an overall outstanding, and yes fail in one area (however insignificant - eg invoice records not up to date) and you can fail.

I was trying to highlight the irony of everything being great apart from IMHO unimportant things and they get inadequate and notice to improve.

I have to say I don't much care for Ofsted; how an education department can determine that schools rated with the word 'satisfactory' are actually poor and need attention obviously has little regard for the english language. And the reports written for my children's infant and junior school are obviously computer generated rubbish created by selecting set phrases and menus from a database; the reports do not flow, or have good grammar, consistency or any form of personality to them at all!

I don't know much about Ofsted - other than that I don't think I've ever met anyone who thinks it's a Good Thing, but I still think if it's there and people use it as a yardstick then it makes sense to play the game. I'm sure Dinahcat is right - it may be down to the inexperience of the governing body. And it's good news if the school can be reassessed when it's corrected the couple of issues. Fingers crossed for "outstanding" next time!

Its my understanding that CH is on 48 hours notice of re-inspection as we speak, to ensure the 'inadequates' identified have been recified. Interestingly, Ofsted are themselves under scrutiny for inconsistencies in their own inspection practices.

If you read the report closely you will see that even the cold hearted New Speak inspectors were moved to near poetic delight. 'The school's aim to foster an appreciation of those things which are fine and lovely and of good repute is assisted by etc etc'. 'The school cherishes its unique identity and all pupils make a conscious effort to subscribe to its ethos'.
That's good enough for me. And ,' may God increase their number '.And, a raspberry to the inspectors. Except the one who wrote the nice things.

I have resisted up to now --- BUT ---

Let us be POLITICAL --- The Labour Party have always hated and denigrated Public and Grammer Schools -- even though many of the Labour Elite went to them.

Any excuse to say that they provide a better education than the so-called Comprehensive and Acadamy systems, is jumped upon with glee.
Catholic Adoption Agencies forbidden to exclude same -sex Couples -- Harriet (The Glorious) Harman's Equality Bill -- etc. !

Was not CH's Charitable Status put in question ------ If that were not so patently ridiculous, I would spit !

One thing causes me to endure this ridiculous Prime Minister and his Government --- Lame Ducks and not long for Power -- they know it-- and so does the entire Country

With a 33% Turnout -- this is what you get !

The thing that sticks in my gullet is that the Charity Commisioners want schools claiming charitable status to make their facilities available to the local population. Do that, and fail to have sparation of pupils and outsiders (armen guards? barbed wire?) and Ofsted will get you! Bring on the men in white coats.

How did they sort out the 'mixing' of pupils and outside users of the sports centre...

I know we used to use it as a placed to 'hang out' when I was there and there were members of the public living there...

Also makes me wonder about seeing my parents... am I allowed in without being searched first???

I interrrogated my son about the Sports' Centre as he has been at home all week ill . He says there are two sets of changing rooms. One for the Members and one set for the pupils. The pupils changing rooms are useless . There is one big changing area and one rail for them to put their clothes on while they swim.I suppose the school , seeing that this was inadequate , let them use the members changing roooms which are suitable for paying members of a Sports' Centre.I am guessing that the child safeguarding laws say this is not acceptable. So, new changing rooms it is then.This will be expensive , I think. In the mean time some parents say the children are changing at the side of the pool. I can't imagine how.

It's been some years since I used the changing rooms but there were 3 for each sex...

one set for each sex had cubicles and lockers and this was meant for the public (but the pupils would get changed there if they could!) The other two were just large rooms with benches round the side and hooks... They obviously connect to the pool through the showers and I see no real way that could change...
