....and on the same subject, I noted in our local news that his daughter died, I think last week, in her nineties.
As a young girl, she was instrumental in her fathers experiments at their home at Effingham on the early development of the possibilities of producing the bouncing bomb using a catapault and marbles.

Thank you for that sad news, JR, I was not aware that Sir Barnes Wallis's daughter, Dr Mary Stopes-Roe, had died. She was a lovely person, always full of vim and vigour. I got to know her through my research for the booklet 'Barnes Wallis and the RAF Foundation' and she could not have been more charming or more helpful. She was very fond of C.H., immensely proud of her father's association with the school, and visited it on several occasions.
I trust that 617 Squadron will give her a good send off, and it would be very fitting if C.H. were to be represented at her funeral.

Mary Stopes-Roe has just been mentioned on the Radio 4 Obituary programme Last Word. It featured a clip of her speaking about her father getting the idea for the bouncing bomb from watching the children play.
