Endeavour (Morse Prequel) ITV
I thought members might be interested to learn that a new series of this commences on Sunday 14 April 2013.
The young Morse's senior sidekick, Inspector Fred Thursday, is played by none other than the CH 2nd XV wing threequarter of 1971, one Roger Allam.

Talking Morse - It's strange.
I really admire and enjoy watching John Thaw's performances, APART FROM 'Morse'. I could never get inside his character as a detective.
'Kavanagh Q.C.', 'The Sweeney', and the absolutely brilliant 'Mr Tom', time and time again, but I just can't watch 'Morse', whereas I can happily watch the follow-up sequel, 'Lewis'

Inspector Thursday is based on Tom Keeley apparently!

I can see it now I think about it.

Keeley suffered from insomnia? Not in the lessons I had.

I don't think he smoked a pipe either. Cigarettes, yes; but no pipe! I think the description (pipe, hat, coat) fits Paddy Cullen better.

Perhaps it was because he (Keeley) didn't sleep at night that he spent so much time asleep in lessons (which he certainly did). But I must say I don't remember him wearing a hat or smoking a pipe. Jack Massen did both, and would qualify as a 'senior sidekick'. (Similarly Dr Scott.)

I don't remember THK smoking a pipe either (and he was my housemaster for a year) but I do remember that he occasionally wore a trilby and greatcoat which is perhaps what was meant.

A new series of this commenced last night on ITV and Roger was interviewed by the Radio Times.

Any thoughts as to whom the 'particular Master' referred to might be?

Sounds rather like AR but there must be one or two other contenders.
