Peter and Miranda Harris

Saddened and surprised to see no mention here of the terrible road accident in South Africa last month in which Peter Harris (Horsham Staff 1975-78) was seriously injured and his wife Miranda was killed. Peter and Miranda were the co-founders of the Christian conservation charity A Rocha International, "an international network of environmental organisations with a Christian ethos" to which they devoted their lives from 1983 onwards. They were in South Africa with the charity's current director and his wife, both of whom also died in the accident, which involved the car they were in falling 75 feet from a bridge.
The Harrises were two of the most likeable and impressive people at CH in my time.
Their four children flew out to South Africa to be with Peter. They've now returned home but his brother and a good friend remain with him.
After the accident there were numerous reports in the media but none that didn't seem to me inaccurate or incomplete.

Evidently his injuries include numerous broken bones, damage to his lungs and severely compromised vision due to brain trauma. Equally evidently he's making progress and his mind is sharp.
There will be a service of thanksgiving for Miranda's life at 2pm on Saturday 14th December at St Aldates Church, Oxford.
