a bit of a long shot but...

apparently an OB is trying to get hold of one of the old collegiate style CH scarves and we wondered if anyone here had one they might be willing to part with.

Please explain, Janet.

John

You and I would have worn the old style wollen school scarf. University or college scarfs at the time were made of a different material with the colours length ways, I think we would have known them as a college scarf. I believe the school later adopted this style as the official school scarf.
I hpoe a) this information is correct and b) a correct interpretation of Janet's meaning. It's how I interpreted it anyway.

Many thank Andrew.

I still have my blue woolen scarf and occasionally wear it to footy matches when the temperature is around zero.

Beth has one, but not sure if she wants to hold onto it, I'll ask her.

I have one of these but there's no way I would part with it!

I also have one, onto which I sewed an old blazer badge. I never actually wear it, but I am not sure that I would want to part with it. I'll think about it!

Maybe this would be worth adding to the list of items sold as official Housey gear.

I don't think the college-style scarf was ever part of school uniform. I bought mine from either CHOGA or the CH club.

Certainly not part of our uniform,Frances. We had a small scarf in our house colour - royal blue for 6's! But, late in life, I've got a CH scarf knitted by Mrs Plum.

A pukka CH scarf had to be long enough to go right around the neck with the ends tucked into the girdle. To get one, one had to badger some elderly female relative to start knitting.

My knitted one, when turned in, also did admirable service as a wooly hat.
I even used it as a useful container when scrumping apples from the orchard.

Mine too.
Much better than my Uni scarf, which I still have.
The moths and old age got my CH scarf.

Just checked: mine is still servicable, just needs a few holes darned. It definately came from John Lewis, Oxford street, I can remember going there to get it along with the games clothes.
