We got married at CH on the 19th December 2009 in the snow - we wanted a winter wedding and it delivered - fabulous luck.

I wore my original pair of yellow socks with my suit, kept me warm too during the day

If anyone is thinking of using CH as a venue they are excellent, food and service was superb (nothing like days of old!) plus of course the dining hall has such a 'wow' factor for guests.

I expect many of us would have liked that opportunity, which, alas did not exist for either of my Weddings !

Is the privilege restricted to Old Blues ?

An old rumour (In my time) alleged that the School Captain could be Married, and on at least one occasion WAS !!!

(This would be in the early 19th C)

CH is available for anyone to get married at a civil ceremony in the Court Room and then reception in Dining Hall or Big School (perhaps another building too, Theatre say) you have to have an association with the school (i.e. Old Blue, teacher etc) to be able to use the chapel.

I suggest you ask Ken Mansell, Old Blue, about this. He has done/is doing an immense amount of work on CH/Old Blues in the 19th Century, and if anyone knows the answer, he will.

I have done quite a lot of work on CH in the very late 18th century and first decade of the 19th century and have never come across this, but Ken would know far better than I.

Thanks Matt. Now confession time - were the socks legitimately yours? In my day all uniform belonged to the school and we should not have kept any of it. I always assumed Horsham was the same, and that yellow socks would belong to the school.

They are lovely, congratulations!. Always nice to see the end result of the 'school' snap avatars!! Oddest thing is, that having neither attended nor visited Horsham, how familiar the buildings seemed!

I asked Matron on the last day of term if I could keep my socks and she said yes! (She wouldn't let me have a shirt though). They still have my house number written on the tags They were the 'special' best pair for use on St Matthew's Day etc when you also got to wear your 'best' housie coat instead of the everyday one that got worn non-stop, the wool was so soft on these compared to everyday wear...

I've still got my blue/white stripe Maine rugby shirt and socks too
