Are Blackberrys allowed in Christ's Hospital?

Hello there,
I will be starting Sixth form from the start of September 09 and I was just curious if "Blackberry's" with internet access enabled in them are permitted in CH or if it is against the rules?
Apologies if this question sounds rather ignorant.
Many thanks

I think the answer to this is "yes"; my DS says that some people have iphones and there are a fair number of pupils who have internet enabled phones... (and he's not talking about just Deps or Grecians).

I think you may find that the official rules are that the only internet access allowed at school is that provided through the school's intranet. With modern technology this is almost impossible to police, but just so you're aware.

Given the cost of maintaining a Blackberry (I just got one - grateful that my CH education all those years ago enabled me to be earning a salary now within which I can afford it), I am AMAZED that a pupil of CH these days can contemplate having one while at school. On top of the price of the Blackberry itself, I pay £35 per month for e mails, internet, text messages and phone calls. The 'extras' like the calendar and global positioning system are not separately charged. It is a brilliant device and I am making full use of it.
However... although it's 40 years ago, as a pupil I was allowed 15 shillings (75p) per term for pocket money - that had to cover toothpaste, sewing thread, and anything else I wanted.
Clearly things have changed.. but I cannot believe that even today expenditure such as for maintaining a Blackberry fits easily into the ethos of Christ's Hospital.

When I joined the Guards, I was paid 3 shillings a day --- 15p !
This covered 10 s for savings 1s for "Barrack Damafges" and a ten bob note in my hand !
The Damages were deducted, whether or not there had been any --- Fiddle ?
and the rest covered Bluebell, Kiwi Blanco and Beer !
I was happier then --- and more comfortable then, than years later, on a Majors Pay !
Revert to OAP Mode ------ The youngsters nowadays , they don't know ---------- !!
Pray tell me --What is a Blackberry -- other than a Bramble ?

It's a phone that does everything! Wish I had one

, although I don't think I'd understand how to use it really.

President Obama had to fight the authorities to be allowed to keep a Blackberry (in deference I call mine 'Raspberry'), arguing that he needed to be kept in touch with his children. So they gave him a new one, security protected. It cost over £2.5k.
At least mine wasn't anything like that! But yes, it's a 'smartphone'. Not just a mobile phone but does e mail and has internet as well as calendar (to synchronise with your computer), global positioning, address book, games, radio... just about anything you could want to do with a single small hand held device. Mine is brilliant... and I make no apologies.
But if they had been invented 40+ years ago when I was in the Sixth Form at CH Hertford, it would not have been appropriate for anyone of us to have had such a device....
