Old Blues at Exeter

I have just returned from a CHA meeting at Housie via Exeter where Jonathan is now in his second year reading physics.

Following a discussion at the CHA Board meeting about Old Blues at University welcoming newcomers from CH, it was something of a co-incidence that attending Sung Eucharist this morning in the Exeter University Church of the Holy Trinity, I was delighted to see Jonathan (the senior sacristan at Exeter University) doing his thing including administering the cup to me at communion time; what I did not expect was that his assistant was Catherine Barber ex Col B and Grecians West. Both went this last summer to Taizé with Munna Mitra and, apparently, Catherine asked Jonathan to whom she should talk if she wanted to help in the University church. His reply was "well, that would be me!". Since she arrived, he has been tutoring and mentoring her in the University Chapel. Apparently, Catherine, studying English, is to write this year's musical for Methang (the Methodist and Anglican Society) at Exeter.

In the picture below, Catherine (Col B and Grecians West) and Jonathan (Pe A and Grecians West) are seen with the University chaplain, the Revd. Charles Hadley.

Ah, yes, the chapel...

fond memories of there and of MethAng too...

My wife is an ex-president of MethAng - it's a great society... it's a Christian group that goes down the pub basically!

(By the way, is Jonathan lining up for the priesthood? Two of the previous sacristans whilst I was there are on their way to being priested!!)

No - he hopes to be a warfare officer in the Royal Navy, I think.

He is - as Nebuchanezzar, he had a leading part in their annual Musical last year - PolyEsther, a jolly romp based on the too oft forgot Book of Esther

That has to be one of the best names for a musical I've ever heard...

I used to try and avoid being in the musical and often just played the flute in the band... In my 4th year, I had no choice as Angie made me be in the musical itself - even having to dance!

Not being pedantic or rude, Dave, I honestly find that very strange.

Almost a conflict of beliefs !

Not really - the Navy does enjoy a little battle from time to time.
