My leaving Grecians entertainment (in the Prep Hall) featured this absurd piece of Housey jingoism which, we understood was dropped, as the school song, in favour of the Votum which, I agree falls far short of the Foundation Hymn, though it contains the odd happy latin phrase - whoever could forget "Caeruleaeque Vestis"?

But Hurrah for the Blue - yes. The bond goes deep. I have been given some undeserved R and R near Alicante prior to attending as a guest at the OTE trade conference in Madrid. Flying out from Newquay, I am to be met at the airport late on Tuesday by John Hopgood (editor of the Old Blue) - surely the bonds of the Cordon Bleu bind us firm. This is way beyond the normal help afforded by alumni of lesser institutions.

The villa has a few spare bedrooms, and I hope that John may stay a night or two at least. Any other OB would, of course, be most welcome also - there is apparently a private pool.

Surely that would be "mantel bleu"?

I am sure that all will be pleased to know that DBTS arrived safely. We found his temporary abode in the middle of an up market housing estate, sat outside till well past midnight eating Serrano ham and Manchego cheese, accompanied by a good bottle of Rioja.
Last seen wending his way to the bus station in Alicante to catch the bus back to the "estate".
There are 3 spare beds and a swimming pool for those thinking of visiting.
It's a big house if you are on your own.

Don't get DBTS on to the subject of keys. He claims the place is worse than Fort Knox.
He was given a key to the front gate, which he mislaid, nearly provoking a heart attack.
When found, we were instructed to open a key safe, a box on the wall with a combination lock. Not easy when the illumination of that area can only be switched on from inside the house. It was 2330, and weariness and alcohol were starting to take effect.
Once the box was opened, there were 3 unlabelled keys, which opened the gate on the front door, the front door and the gate to let the car in.
The back door and the second floor terrace door also had security locks and iron gates, also with locks.
All the windows were barred, upstairs and down.
There is a smoke alarm, although, if it went off, the chances of getting out are seriously reduced by the security in place.
Not a lot of value in the house so they must be worried about guests being kidnapped.
It was a relief to get back to my house in the village, where I tend to leave the back door open when I take the dog for a walk.

I still have a strong leaning towards MB's Potty Time - (No children, no requirement to grow up!) followed closely by KD's Jam Butty Mines (got an excuse he's a real reli - no waterfalls involved !!)

I notice that decorum has prevented any Old Blue from alluding to the phrase "Caruquelique Vestis," when the entire School ,commonly, pronounced the last word spelled with a "T" !!
It conjures up that happy time when we could flout Authority without Danger !
