GRECIANS PATH
Can anyone throw light on the origin of the Grecians Path?
Basically its the path that runs infornt of the Hosues all the way from Peele to Leigh Hunt. Buttoned Grecians had the privilege of using it in my time but when and whow did it come about?

For the exclusive use of Masters and Button Grecians only in my time and woe betide anybody beaking the rule!
At the Maine A Reunion a couple of years back the people I was talking to walked on it and although I stayed with them it still felt subversive and wrong!

If a Button Grecian caught you walking on 'their path', you could expect dire consequences.

Its now for Deps, Grecians and staff. But no one seems to bother punishing younger years caught on it anymore...

Re: GRECIANS PATH
Grecians' Path...
aka Snobs' Alley.
But I imagine it had its origins in the "Grecs' Cloi" in London. That was foe grecians only, and I suppose this was an attempt to continue the exclusivity. It lasted certainly until the mid-60s, and unlike most Button Grecian privileges (bikes in school, for example), wasn't extended to common-or-garden 2nd-year grecians without buttons.
