A wiki joke?

I was just browsing on Wikipedia and thought I would quickly check the CH wiki page when I came across this little bit of humour. Is this a mistake or a joke?

Sadly it seems to have been edited now!

I'm guessing that as the box at the top right is on every Wiki page, that it's a template with default values if incorrectly completed (eg, "no suitable....."). I can't imagine anyone actually typing in "no suitable headmaster".

Interesting page edits though - some contributors have been rather gushing about certain members of staff, and haven't appreciated that Wiki is at least supposed to be fairly objective :)

Hmmmm, and unless I'm mistaken, the edit was made almost immediately after Gemma's post.

So, Philgunny, would you mind also adding the names of at least some distinguished female OBs?

Cheers.

It is quite possible that one of the kids put that in there as a joke... I don't think he is especially popular with the pupils...

You've been out of school too long, Jo!

This inspired me to have another look at the site, but I couldn't find anything relevant - where are these gushings? I'd love to see them!

And from the land down under,
So, Philgunny, would you mind also adding the names of at least some distinguished female OBs?
Couldn't you, or any other of the Hertford old girls, do that yourself? I haven't explored the possiblility, but I thought that was the whole point (and one of the problems, much as I approve of the site) of Wiki?

Well maybe gushing is a bit of an exaggeration, but certainly subjective. You have to look at the History tab - try comparing yesterday's revisions of 1752 and 1918. Or line 155 of version 1918:

"The head of Drama (Mr Jefferey Mayhew) is absolutely great. The Lower School play, [[The Phantom Tollbooth]] was an impeccable play that was directed by the legend Mr David Saunders). " (edited out this morning)

Revision as of 19:42, 22 May 2008 (edit)
217.33.68.34 (Talk)

Someone with a grudge, evidently :)

That would be the Systems Manager presumably though? I guess all the CH IP addresses would be in his name, so it looks like it's possibly a current pupil.

I believe that my displeasure at this "joke" has already been made known...

On Wiki, did anyone else see the Alex cartoon in the Telegraph on 4 June? If not, go to http://www.telegraph.co.uk and click on Alex cartoon in the top right-hand corner, then keep clicking "Previous Alex" till you come to it.
