Whilst looking for something else, I stumbled on the biography of George Peele (C.H. 1565-1570), after whom the CH house is named. Most other Old Blues almost certainly know about him already, but for the few (like me) who don't he can be found at:

He was a playright and worked with contemporary members of that profession, such as William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. Elsewhere his life is described as an alternation of dissipation and hard work, coupled with a fondness for bad jokes, suggesting that Old Blues haven't changed all that much over the centuries.
