Is #14 the escape route out?
Well, Mr Knight, we all loved Marmite! It went a long way, and stayed in good nick in the warm tuck cupboard which you can see unlocked in pic 22! "Home jam" soon fermented in its depths.
Pic 14 was the front entrance. I don't know anyone who ran away out of the front entrance. DR's house was on the left looking out, and the White House opposite was a staff residence. It would have been rather like an insouciant escape from Holloway through the main gates.
But - there was a back gate, officially locked, but not
always, know-what-I-mean, and I did hear there was a way of hopping over the wall beside this gate. Opposite was Hertford East Station. Runaways did much better via this route.
I can't think why I didn't have a go at running away, actually. I think the most successful absconder was Carola Curwen who stayed at liberty for several days, but I'm happy to be corrected on this one. With my luck, I'd have been caught before arriving at Liverpool Street station. A bid for Freedom!
Suppose I haven't changed much then - still married -
