They already wear long robes, why not just issue them with a wand then they could say 'lumos'.

These would be very useful at Candlemas or any other occasion where the choir are in charge of lighted candles. I remember one service where someone's fringe shrivelled up because they were holding the offending article too close, resulting in the most revolting and acrid smell pervading the Chapel.
