Death of Carol Adams
Very sorry to see this obituary in today's Guardian for Carol Adams (Hertford 1959-65), founder and chief executive of the General Teaching Council:

I am racking my brains to think who this was. Where did you get the Hertford dates? She was a year younger than me, and as I entered into the then LIV she probably went into the III form - which would put her into Kerren's year group.
I really cannot remember anyone called Carol Adams, I wonder what name she went by at school? I need more information and will probably grovel and say 'Of course!'

The dates were supplied by the Partnership Office. Unfortunately they have no record of which ward she was in, and didn't provide any forename apart from Carol or surname apart from Adams.

Her maiden name was 'Adams', and she was in 3's. We have been trying to get more information about the how, when and where of her death - and of funeral arrangements. There is a rumour that the funeral has already taken place, but I cannot at the moment corroborate that.
After a meteoric career in teacher education, serving as Director of Education in both Wolverhampton and Shropshire (I think), she became the Founding Chief Executive of the General Teaching Council in 2000, and last year was appointed a Commissioner for the Commission for Racial Equality.
Yes she was in my era... she was one of those invited to our 40-years on Reunion in July 2006 (but could not come).
She was appointed to the Council of Almoners last year, and this Wednesday was due to attend the Education Committee. Instead, her son phoned through to inform the Foundation of her death - but he only left a message with someone, and no details are yet known.
So thank you Rex for the tip about the Guardian. I have been scanning the online papers since Wednesday, to no avail. I'll now try today's Guardian!
And Wendy Killner has been trying to get information so that it can be posted on the CHA website (with Steve Webb's agreement).
Her career with the GTC and appointment to the CRE are both commemorated on their respective websites.
A sad day for Old Bluedom, I think.

I think Carol must have been a late developer. I STILL cannot place her at all! I am left with several questions in my mind such as she read History at University - was Miss Mercer an influence on her wanting to go into teaching?
BTW, one Kerren Simmonds who was in that year in 2s is someone I remember VERY well! She was so sporty that the whole school knew her!

Well thank you for that Katharine. Sporty - ah, yes, I remember it well! In my dreams I can still feel the way my ankles 'flipped' when I was running. I postulate that all that hockey was a contributory factor in the arthritic disease which hit me in my forties - as a result of which I had to have a hip repair, now have to have a blue badge, and my employers have bought an electric buggy to help me get around the campus (actually I refuse to use it, but...).
Ho Hum.
