I could have sworn there was a thread on here earlier about showing up at the Tower in full Housey to get free admission. I can't find it now. Perhaps it was my overactive imagination. :/

Anyway, my dad was well aware of the possibility. He was quite keen for me to give it a go, but the only times I really went to London at that point were on Leave Days. Time spent out of uniform was precious, so I wasn't so keen.

Still, I do remember that somebody did it, because Richard Poulton mentioned it in one of his assemblies. My dim recollection was that it was someone fairly junior at a time I was reasonably senior. But then I'm making up threads that don't exist, so you probably shouldn't trust my memory.

Or perhaps it's on there and I'm blind. That's also well within the realm of possibility.

There was definitely a thread. I posted on it earlier. No idea where. Think it started (or maybe led to) the sheep and the bridge discussion. Ah yes, it's the thread about some bloke who was senior grecian doing a dj set only he wasn't really senior grecian. Or something. Try looking for that, hope it helps.

Yes , pupils turning up in Full Housey can get into the Tower free - it has been done by several for the last 2 or 3 years that I know of.

Sorry (and it's not you I'm arguing with here) but that doesn't answer why an interesting thread had to be removed. I was having a discussion about sheep. I'm not impressed. I didn't see anything that was upsetting/offensive on that thread, so where's the problem?

So it seems my real complaint is with the search engine. My search for 'Tower' didn't find it.

Actually, AtomNet didn't have a search at all, so I'm in no real position to complain.

Last St Matthew's Day, about 6 of us made it into the Tower free of charge. We had walked through London in the pouring rain, in Housey, as well as having got on the Tube. Londoners are an amazingly adaptable bunch - they barely stared!!!

Matthew, if you are the same Matthew I am thinking of, then it would have been Mark Hick, a boy on my year...

I did get into St Paul's Cathedral once for free, but that was in my own clothes and was probably due to grandma Plum who kept hasling them until I was allowed in!

Yes, unless you are in there to be religious - you do have to pay to go to the Whispering Gallery and the one above as well but I got in for free...

That's St Paul's, the big cathedral place?

Surely it's there for the use of the public as and when. What is the world coming to?
