i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me collect some information for an archaeology coursework.
Can anyone tell me when the excess platforms were demolished after the Beeching cuts?
does anyone have interesting facts or information about the old station?
Does anyone have any photographs of the station during its prime? (i have seen the other photos from the train crash topic.)
Thanks a lot.

Hello Moulam. Is Mr Fleming still at CH? My A level archaeology project was called "What is the Archaeology of Christ's Hospital Train Station' - I ended up getting a B so it can't have been that bad! Sadly this was 10 years ago so I don't remember too much about what I did. You could ask Mr Fleming as he was my teacher or alternatively there may be a few books in the library or the CH Museum (if it's still there). I managed to find some old pictures of the old station building somewhere - it was quite impressive. Starting to sound like I have an anorak and thermos flask so will shut up now...good luck with it!

Mr Fleming is still at CH... but at the risk of sounding like an anorak here goes...
CH station was built in 1902 and had 7 facing platforms of which two remain now...
There were 3 facing platforms on the Guildford line - these are still there but crumbling (to get to these, there is a gate on the London platform which leads to them - but it does say private property...) When theline closed in 1965, the builidngs were demolished but the platforms remain...
The main school platform and the large building was demolished in 1972 as were most of the platofrm buildings and canopies. If you go down the subway you will notice i has been bricked upat one end - this gave access to the other platform. The main building was were the car park now stands.
The Goods shed is obviously still there!
The main signal box stood at the end of the London platform but was destroyed by arson on my Grecians...
That's enough of me being sad...

You could also consider using your project to populate the
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christs_Ho ... ay_station section, and/or maybe an article for the Old Blue magazine if appropriate?

That wouldn't stop idiots burning it down...
BTW It's Railway station as opposed to Train station, isn't it, guys?
That's one misuse of English I really can't bear! Ok, all the pedants are here on this topic!

I get annoyed by those who cannot tell the difference between a train and an engine. I do work for a Railway Company!

I get annoyed by late trains (with engines pulling them), unexplained delays and leaves on the line, but then again, I don't work for a railway company.

Very few trains have engines hauling them now (pedant!)

Yes but not an 'engine' as in 'Thomas the Tank Engine'
(Can I get myself out of this?

)
