Grecians houses now due to the larger number of girls taking on as New Deps is no longer one wing for boys and one for boys, they have pods of bedrooms with a kithen etc. which you can only access with you swipe card. It used to be two pods accessible through each swipe card point, now as they cant keep boys and girls seperate in two wings you have to swipe your card to get into you specific pod which is your boarding house group

It all sounds so different from when I was there. All we had in the girls houses in the seniors was a cubicle between two of us with partitions separating them. If you stood on the bed you could see over into the next cubicle.

When the merger took place in 1985 I was just starting my GE so I did 4 years at Hertford & 3 at Horsham.

Was that difficult to cope with?
I mean, you get used to one set up, then you have to adapt to a new syle and way of doing things

It was certainly different. Horsham was HUGE compared to Hertford. It was far more relaxed at Horsham. It was weird having lessons with boys but everyone adapted very well I think.

Reading some of the Hertford memories, it does seem to be the case that although we had our rules, we were more relaxed than Hertford.
I hope the boys weren't too silly about having girls there, or were they under strict orders

I think a few of them were prone to a little bit of showing off

Most were fine though. I can still remember the first few weeks at Horsham really well - whenever Feargal Sharkey - A Good Heart or Midge Ure - If I Was come on the radio it reminds me of those days as these songs were in the charts around this time

Not entirely correct Amy - you can only enter your pod via the door of the pod allocated to your swipe card (apart from when doors are wedged open - you naughty people!!), but once inside you have access to 2 pods as 2 pods are based around each staircase.
For several years there have been seperate wings for girls and boys - only occassionally has it been necessary to mix due to numbers.
Thornton B IS girls - 2nd 3rd and LE (double numbers) and Deps , who have come from other Avenue Houses after their GE.Thornton A has boys UF ( I think - have lost track somewhat!!) to Deps . In September 2007 the current UF and GE will be spread between the other boys houses (which means there are fewer places for male new Deps that year) , the Deps will, of course move to GRW, and then the girls will split across and build their numbers . I think this is correct anyway!

For me it was Atomic by Blondie and the thing I remember most was Bob F's reaction to Debbie Harry

"Young Girl" (1968) by Gary Puckett and Union Gap the year I was 14, and "School's Out" (1972) by Alice Cooper for some reason.

I have a few clear memories of the sicker
1. Going down there for a tenuous "illness" to avoid chapel or if you were very lucky first period... So basically continually going to the back of the queue to make this more likely.
2. Getting given a tubigrip or asthma inhaler for literally any ailment
3. Days of rest... Fantastic
4. That funny pervading smell of the tube
5. Stealing raw spirit alcohol
6. The after tea fights between Richard Hadley and Piers Fletcher that happened every night for about 3 weeks on the bit of grass opposite.
7. The doctor's terrible spidery handwriting
8. Comparing medical cards (and seeing how many you could get)

I remember getting real giggles everytime I walked past the entrance to the sicker in the morning to see all the mugs of coffee dumped by the door to ensure the patient had a temperature. And the number of "patients" waiting to see the Dr with temperatures that by rights should mean you have just died of fever
