and it was a successor (of the same name) to STC's CH friend Valentine le Grice who instituted the proceedings to try to stop Prince Charles marrying the second time. The original Val became a rector in west Cornwall and prospered; Charles le Grice becoming Lord Lieutenant * of Cornwall.

I'm sure you're as delighted as I am to hear that Kimchi is back, but UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.

Let us forget about the past and look forward to the future.

Now for some enlightened debate.

In your opinion, how is Mr John Franklin upholding the traditions of CH?
How is he better than his predecessor? How is he worse?
What can he do to improve?

I would also like to know more about this proposed abolition of uniform.

You got married? You're in jail? You are achieving your targets via a learning curve (lessons having been learned) and you're thinking blue sky thoughts outside the box?

The abolition of uniform is a tale as old as time. Rumour/legend has it, though nobody seems to have "been there", that there was/is meant to be/will be a referendum every five/ten years about the continuation of the uniform, and that each time the motion has been strongly carried.

Now, to your question! Fear not, anything I say here I would gladly say to JRF's face. Perhaps Kimchi is JRF!

Well, one thing that is certainly better is the disciplinary system, and as a result the social attidute. In the year and a bit since he arrived, JRF, together with his four deputies over the time, has tightened up and, perhaps just as importantly, clarified, the discipline system. As well as clearly labelling what will happen if X occurs, he has made it quite clear that some things which were going on are not acceptable, such as the screaming of Happy Birthday at lunch (or at any time - tuneful and timed please!), and the at some points quite raucous cheering at assembly. Some of this caused consternation at the time, but now that is settling the school is looking much better.

It is unfortunate for JRF that he seems to be shy. This was more damaging in his first year, as it was then more pronounced. As a result, the school has taken longer to get to know him; however, this year has shown a marked improvement. Over the course of the term handfuls of Grecians have been invited into the school office and then into his garden for hot chocolate and biscuits, to talk about things.

My only real criticism is that of the revised in-house times, and this is only for a different reason to others. Since I am a grecian, my prep concludes at 9.30, which is the UF in-house time. This makes co-ordinating meetings very difficult, but fortunately for official things I may sign out early, and for really official, staff-run things, the UF can stay out. Essentially, having no life has helped a lot

As an 'Oldie', I must say I'm glad to see he has tightened up on discipline.

Angela: No, no and no. The old Kimchi is unfortunately detained for an indefinite period of time. I am merely just righting some wrongs, and wronging some rights.

I would just like to point out that neither the old Kimchi, or the new Kimchi, have no affiliation to CH whatsoever, and are just well-wishers.

Discipline isn't there to be wielded like a big stick just for the sake of it. The word that SHOULD be linked with 'discipline' is 'respect', sadly a word that rapidly seems to be disappearing in this crazy country of ours.

You wouldn't expect to join the Britich Armed Forces and find discipline has been relaxed to appease the political correctness brigade, would you ?

A confusing statement. If neither of them have no affiliation, does that mean that both do have some affiliation?

Quite agree Mary - a logical mind certainly can see it that way.

J.R: Kimchi totally agrees. Respect is a value that everyone should recognise as important, but harsh discipline is not always the way to enforce this. The Armed Forces should have a rigorous disciplinary system, infact, this is probably one of the tenets of every military, or paramilitary, force.

Mary: Kimchi is not a perfect being, and sometimes makes mistakes. Neither Kimchi, old or new, has any affiliation with CH.

Kimchi's name derives from the second definition.

So kimchi has Korean connections (maybe even is Korean) but has no involvement in Christ's Hospital. So why is she/he joining in this Forum....?
