"All pupils, families, staff, Old Blues and anyone else related to CH "
it's at the top of every page..... fairly clear, I would think ....
It's like the big-cats cage at the zoo, if you're not one and you still go in, then what happens is mektoub
As you rightly point out, at the top of every page it says 'and anyone else related to CH'. Your point being - I am not related to CH so, really, I shouldn't be here. Had it said 'anyone interested in CH' then perhaps things would have been different.
On to Richard's comments, and I am breaking a promise I made to someone only yesterday via a pm now - You say that I really don't get it. Well, you're right there, on the one hand you say you don't want the forum to be 'exclusive', you even say you welcome people's interest, yet on the other hand you find it 'strange' when someone with no CH connections joins the forum, shows some interest and starts asking questions. Have I missed something there? Is there a level of interest that would have been acceptable? Obviously mine was not. I also don't understand what you mean by 'urgency' of interest. This implies that I want the information in a hurry. Not so, anyone with information could have given it at their leisure, or not given it at all. I would never have pressed anyone for anything. No urgency whatsoever. My position has been called 'unique'. I'm not sure if this is because I am the only non CH person on the boards or if it is because of my interest. But CH is unique, hence my interest. When you say that you 'would not launch myself onto their alumni website, or try to get on mailing lists for publications', had Rock School been filmed elsewhere, I can quite understand that. You were lucky enough to have been to CH. there is no other school like it, so why would you need to bother? I believe there is another series of Rock School being filmed, this time at a comprehensive school but I certainly won't be watching that as comprehensives are 10 a penny.
Finally, - I can only assume that Euterpe13's comments were aimed at me. Someone else who welcomes interest in CH then goes on to compare me with Walter Mitty. You really must forgive me for thinking there are lots of double standards here. Again, I ask, what level of interest would have been acceptable? I simply had no idea that my presence on the boards caused any such feelings: to have a 'gut feeling', and an 'instinctive hackle-rise', something that 'does not gel' and to say that everything I have said on here registers on the 'BS-meter'. To cause such feelings in someone is totally unacceptable to me. Had I known this earlier I would have left long ago. (again, I hear you say!) To have a person mistrust you in such a way is one person too many. It is obvious that it would now be completely inappropriate for me to contribute further to the forum, with my every word being scrutinised and disbelieved.
Has any person here experienced a 'spark' of interested when confronted with something new? I remember my first real one. It was the Apollo moon missions, with Apollo 13 in particular. I was around at the time and simply could not get enough of it. With the advent of the internet I was able to to gain almost unlimited access to all sorts of information on the subject. Completely useless to most people, but of great interest to me. For some inexplicable reason I had a similar 'spark' about CH. Don't ask me why because I don't really know, but there it is. And yes, I do feel foolish when I tell you this, but you did ask.
Whether you like it or not, it is very obvious that this forum has turned into an exclusive club and I can fully understand why many people want to keep it that way. As I stated earlier it is not promoted in such a way as to invite non CH people into it, and that is absolutely no criticism of Julian, he has a marvellous site here. It must be much more interesting to yourselves to share stories that you have actually experienced than to answer questions from people who know nothing of the school in order to fill up their 'scrap books'.
