Guess what folks! Just as my OB friend and I were preparing to leave the house to go to East Grinstead, the hospital phoned to say they had made a mistake about the time of my surgery, and could no longer offer me an opportunity today! My friend had come all the way from Bradford to help me for a few days!!
The best the hospital can offer instead is 'some time' on Tuesday next week.....
I can't describe how I feel, both on my own behalf an on behalf of my OB friend - and vice versa.

Shocking service Kerren and how bad oyu must feel for your friend but at least you got to spend some time together?

It sounds as though someone at your hospital needs a good kicking. I hope they will sort you out soon.

Kerren - same thing happened to me last Spring. I'd made such careful arrangements, not to mention having become mentally prepared. But much more infuriating for you - and the OB friend who'd come all that way...

Forgive me for being sceptical, but I think you got a B....s..t excuse.
It seems to me that something else came up that they thought was more important and put you on the back burner.

I say this because I have recently had a series of tests and get the results in the near future. I phoned the specialist to get an appointment and was given one just before Xmas. (22nd)
When I explained that I thought it might be urgent for the specialist to see the results, they backtracked and gave me an appointment next Monday (15th), a whole week earlier.
To be honest, until he sees the results, I have no idea whether they are urgent or not.
They have either bumped someone else or they hold appointments free just in case.
In all events, I feel that the receptionists/secretaries play a game with little or no thought for the patient, in the full knowledge that you can't easily take your business elsewhere.
Sorry about that, I have a dislike for petty, insensitive dictators and people, who I believe, try to sell me B...s..t..

Hi John.. I hope your tests don't indicate something urgent! Would be a bit of a bummer for Christmas.
Yes, my whole thing is out of order - but it was the Sister on the Day Surgery Ward who c*ck*d up but giving me the wrong time for my appointment when I phoned on Friday. They are quite open about that, and the consultant's secretary is as annoyed about it as I am (and I guess he was, too). It's right that none of them seem to care about the effect on me or on my friend who had taken five days out of her life to help me. The mental trauma I went through yesterday was curious - I was speechless for a couple of hours and felt totally rudderless until I calmed down and had a drink early in the evening!
My friend can no longer be here next week and I am having difficulty finding anyone who can take me on Tuesday. In an appeal to them today I find that, because I am registered disabled (not because the hospital has messed me around!) they will send a car or an ambulance to take me there and bring me home afterwards (even though it's an hour and half's drive)! That doesn't meet the third criterion which is that I should have someone to look after me for 24 hours, but there you go!

Re Qiuiz and Ego --- It was universal in my time at CH, but has probably, as with many other things
now ,regrettably, lapsed .
Did you know that in prison, the term "Two's up !" serves the same function !

Oh dear --- when one has to explain the joke, I realise that senility has not only set in --- but has established permanence !

I remember DR getting furious in Confirmation classes when we had to learn the catechism, and people insisted on replying "N or M" to the first question.
