A good cup of tea is very important.

I quite agree, hence my taking of flask of it to school each day!

One question: Why did a lot of the boys have their belts around their knees in marching? Surely it restricts march-abilty? Curious...very curious... hm...

I think they have always done that, they were certainly doing it back in my day.

Haha, another CH tradition!
There was one boy and the belt was literally round his knees, he couldn't march he was just shuffling [sp??] along.
But it was great to see the marching though, I don't know why some people don't want to! [Or have I got the wrong end of the stick and they just don't want to march in Grecians Houses?]

Those people really irritate me - why can't they just wear it...properly? The problem was the Grecians' Houses, but I think it's all calming down now.

I seem to remember in the senior years we tended to wear the girdle quite low at one side.
P'raps JH might like to comment. His retention of memory seems to be better than mine.

Ah... thanks.
And Josh, I can't say they irritate me, but really the uniform is so much a part of the school you would think they would show a little pride?

As far as the uniform is concerned, we were all (well, mostly) very proud of it in the early 70s. We used to get called 'penguins' when we ventured into town (is that still the case?), and I remember the odd friendly scrap (i.e. very little blood spilt). But the girdle thing must surely go back hundreds of years. What self-respecting teenager wouldn't want to wear it at a rakish angle when old enough to get away with it? There will, of course, be those who go too far, but as in every other aspect of life, they only make themselves look daft!
I seem to recall a couple of inches above one hip and an inch or so below the other being rather fetching...
Oh, and the broadie would definitely have been near the side.

If the broadie is the buckle they were round the back!

as you see lunch parade more often you will realise each house has their own marching style (well boys houses anyway)
Mid A-look like they have something up their backsides/think they are too cool for school
Lamb a/b-bop
Peele B-in my day were the most dishevelled pack but they have improved!

Perhaps their buckles?

Haha, we noticed that Greciens [west] seemed really proud of being in the school and uniform was almost perfect from what I could see! Heads held high etc etc. Couldn't work out what any other houses were [except Barnes B because of my friends!] but all seemed 'distinctive'
