Prbably something to do with Viscount Leverhulme who set up other educational things (the Leverhulme Trust provide research funds to Universities etc -

So that looks a real possibility for that scholarship then. DO they still have all the various scholarships resulting in the student wearing a metal badge on the coat?
Those things are hard! I punched one once and nearly broke my hand doing it.

Navy
West Gift
the blucoat school in chichester

Yup - I think Army and Dambusters died out in our generation. Ironmongers and Skinners had badges IIRC. I was a RN presentee and was jolly proud of my badge. It was a pain though - keep putting it on and taking off my jacket & Housey coat. They were solid silver - except they kept getting dented (people dropping coats carelessly) so the matrons collected them all in one holiday and sent them to the Manny (CDT / Design School) to have their backs filled in with lead (or something)
I recall a Needlemaker being given a roll of sewing needles by her governor. She was chuffed with that (not. more like bemused)

Does the Clothworkers presentee get a 'badge'?
