Just listening to this.

Sir Colin Davis of course had a sister or sisters at Hertford and as he said on my final Prizegiving, they donated fish knives and forks when they left.

(The name Pauline springs to mind)

I don't think it was Sir Colin Davis, mary if you look here, he is referred to as OB Colin R E Davies.

I thought one of the OBs was addressed as Colin. He had a noticeable Welsh accent, which his sisters (Heather and Gretel) certainly did not. I have a vague feeling that their home was in Croydon. They were certainly very proud of how well Colin was doing. The first time I saw him was at the Festival Hall in 1952, when he was deputy conductor for a ballet company whose name escapes me. One of the ballets was "Paganini" to the Rachmaninov music, and all I remember of Colin was a huge shock of black hair being shaken wildly about- it was well in keeping with the ballet.

Old Blues, of whom there is a photo in the Old Blue, were Martin Reed (La B 57 - 65) with fellow Welshmen, Maldwyn Osborne (Ma B 44-51) and Colin R E Davies (Pe A 52-59).

Did I say it was Colin Davis the conductor? No I didn't, I just said he had sisters at Hertford. I knew it wasn't him on the radio as he was born in Weybridge in 1927 so would have left CH at the end of the war.
