Hi Munch

Please keep us posted, but I'm betting that she's close by and merely punishing you for having the audacity of taking a holiday without her :)

Still missing -

No Min Min at cat breakfast time.

Thank you Kerren Caroline and Mary! Very strange that such a home-loving cat should vanish. Perhaps I should contact that supreme sleuth PC Gilbody?

No, joking apart, I am worried.

Sorry to read about your cat Munch.

My sister's cat disappeared not long after she moved house. Six months later she received a call informing her that her cat was found at the flats where she previously lived. The cat had made its way from Crouch End North London to Lewisham South East London!

Could somebody have inadvertently shut your cat in a shed or garage given the mild weather?

My son was cat-sitting while we were away, and she's been gone four days now! Min Min is not at all adventurous, won't even go out of the front door to the road, and never ventures very far.

Now to question all the neighbours..

I hope your cat returns safely Angela. Some years ago ours disappeared for about 4 days, the turned up looking completely bemused at 6.45 one morning. Admittedly he was old and losing his marbles by then.

Jasmine -

Post by Angela Woodford »

Thank you so much everyone, for your encouraging advice!

I'm amazed to read that Andy's sister's cat did such a trek across London!

When it comes to sat nav, cats are doing it for themselves! And Maggie's cat came home too.

The neighbours are kindly checking their sheds and garages.

BUT - in the newsagents, a distraught message + picture of an injured cat - Lily - a pretty white shorthair cat shot by an airgun on Monday night who crawled home and had to be put down. That's the night Jasmine went missing. I so hope that it's co-incidence. How wicked of some moron.

I thought it so funny to hear from JR and family that kitten Riagan can achieve vertical takeoff in pursuit of flying prey. Clever cat or what?

Good luck to you and to Jasmine, Angela.. I shall be thinking of you. My sister's cat came home once, after several days' absence, having been injured by a shotgun (there were suspicions about a local teenager, but nothing proven). Dill (the cat) survived and after several nervous months is now back to his usual self. Sadly there are indeed sickos out there.. so I pray that what is going on for you is nothing sinister and that an otherwise sulky Jasmine will shortly slink through your door, protest over.
I had a run in with my new cleaning company this week - they 'lost' one of my cats (said they had opened the back door to empty their hoover bag, and it had escaped, despite my requests that they be careful). So the Franchisee herself owned up to having spent quite some time chasing him up and down the road (with a plastic Christmas Tree, which is actually a dog toy?!) until at some point he gave up and came indoors. Thank God for that. I do not let my cats out when I am not here, because my house is right on the edge of a cul de sac where youths on motorcycles often do fast and roaring wheelies, and the house is within 15 yards of the main south coast railway line. The cleaning company seemed to think that my attitude on this was unreasonable... But I don't want to be 40 minutes' drive away, at work, worrying about whether my cats are safe or not. They have the run of the whole house, which is full of toys, cat balls, scratching posts, comfy hammocks on radiators, etc. etc. .. so I can't believe that they are that disadvantaged.
Ho Hum! Some are cat lovers and others are not. I really hope that your anxiety over Jasmine will soon be resolved. As I said, fingers, toes (and paws!) crossed.

They do get in a huff if you go away and leave them to it. We had a cat, Marmaduke, who went walkies for quite a long time (6 months actually). One day while my mum was hanging out the washing, he meandered round the corner as if nothing had happened. We haven't got a clue what happened to him in the interim, but he had clearly been feeding and was fine. He never went away again and lived a long and happy life. Maybe it's a mid-life crisis, or a teenage huff. They know which side their bread is buttered - she'll be back for cuddles but only when she's ready and you've had plenty of time to stew!

Still no sign of Jasmine! She's been gone over a week now. Still, if Marmaduke went missing for six months... ! I shan't give up hope.

This is becoming catching.

Toby and Riagan went out last night at 9:00. Riagan returned and Toby hasn't. It is now nearly 9:ooam Wednesday and we are distraught.

This is highly unusual because Toby is basically a very shy cat.

I'll keep you posted !

Just remember that under all that fluffy domesticated exterior, cats are always very independant creatures, and only lend themselves to us.
Spoilt Sally, whom I had since she was rescued from extermination as a kitten on a building site ( very very feral) behaved as a child of the house for many years, and even "baby-watched" for me when Sebastien was small - then one day, when she was about 7 years old, suddenly took umbrage ( as only cats can) and went to live across the road in the neighbour's garden.
We never found out why, and neither did our bemused neighbour.....
She sneered at me from his garden wall every day until finally dying of old age.

What news JR? Is Toby back yet? How awful.

This Sally sounds a real character cat Barbara. Didn't you say she liked eating melon?

Sally was a law unto herself - and because I very much treated her as a human child, she reacted the same way. When she was very small, I used to put her in the pocket of my overall to prevent stepping on her when doing the housework ( imagine front paws & head sticking out of the pocket), and she would sleep up against my stomach at night, under the duvet.
When I was pregnant with Seb, she used to sit on my lap, against the bump, and purr - I swear that she was talking to him. People told me that I would have to get rid of her once the baby was born because cats could "cover children and smother them". Well, when we came back from the maternity, she jumped once up into the empty crib ( I think to have a look) and never went there again. But if I was in the kitchen or bathroom and Seb started to cry, she would be with me in a second and miaowing at me to tell me that my baby needed me !
She never, ever, scratched Seb despite because baby-handled to a disgraceful degree ( his trick was to catch her tail as she went by and hold on...), and travelled all over France and Spain with us.
Loved cantaloupe melon and the tops of oysters, but not caviar.

I love cats, wish that I could have one - perhaps I get one for Mother and share...

GOOD NEWS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We decided to go down to Horsham on our monthly trip as usual, after having put notes through all our local neighbours doors asking them to check their gardens and sheds. We arrived home about 5:00 and there was still no sign of Toby so we decided to pop up to the local club and 'drown our sorrows'. We met up with some local friends and it became a bit of a session and we arrived home around 10.00-ish.

I went straight to the kitchen to put the kettle on and heard Jan scream !

Rushing into the livving room, I saw Toby sitting on the patio looking through the doors with that "Where the feck have you been ?' look on his face.

Needless to say he was welcomed home like the prodigal son before tucking into a big bowl of sardines in tomato-sauce. One of his favourite treats.

We can only assume a neighbour checked his/her shed and found him !
