I went to see my very first professional footie match recently. Was taken by Oliver to watch Plymouth Argyle play Luton at home. Great fun - but I do not feel a pressing need to go again.soc wrote:I have never seen a club match, wouldn't mind going to one to see what the atmosphere is like. Trouble is, I don't know which are the good clubs to see.

I have been fortunate enough to go and watch the Pumas in Buenos Aires (vs England, Australia and the Springboks, although not at the same time) and a fair number of World Cup qualifiers for the Argentine Football team.
My wife is not a sports fan, but she far prefers the Rugby, more continuous action and far more "manly". The crowd was better as although a fair amount of wine and beer flowed at the Rugby, there seemed to be no violence, except on the pitch.
Going to the footie, meant continually being on the lookout for potentially violent situations. Getting to the ground was the worst bit.
At Boca, they actually close of the one road leading to and from the opposing teams fans entrance, with two metre wire fences across the crossroads so that fans cannot attack one another. This goes on until the fans are about 6 or 7 blocks from the stadium, and then the police try and keep them apart.
Inside the footie stadium the atmosphere and singing is far more involved than at the rugby match.
I enjoyed both, but my favourite continues to be my visits to the Valley, maybe because the Addick fan's doom and gloom attitude barely changes when we occasionally win, which I find hilarious.
Its a bit like why I like to travel on Iberia, because the service can only improve, and when it does, it is a pleasant surprise.

Nope! Leeds were relegated at the end of last season. Sale would be worth watching, though.blondie95 wrote:well up north the only premiership teams there are are Sale Sharks, Leeds and Newcastle. Unless you want to see rugby league which i cannot stand but there are more league teams up north
