Oh, and DJD used to smoke his cigarettes in a little cigarette-holder – a mild dandyism, I suppose.
And he had a habit of pushing his fingers through his hair which for some reason sticks in my mind when I think of him smoking.

I *knew* there was someone who used a cigarette-holder, but had forgotten who.
The other master in charge of the Netherlands trip was Peter Austin Jones.
We were all of us amazed by the extent of smoking in Holland in those days. It was not uncommon to see four children on one bicycle, all smoking.

Behind the manny.
Lamb A ends was quite a popular destination.
The copse next to the music school.
The tree in the middle of big side when we were younger.
Cigarettes and baccy were procured at any number of shops in Horsham...the most popular being the one just over the railway bridge as that as the closest.
Sometimes used to go out to the copse near Mr West's house - near the crossing, but that was a haul.
Summer evenings were anywhere on Bigside, covered or not.
