I would deem the original advert posted as a falsehood, and misrepresentation.

As moderators we VERY rarely moderate anything - but in this case there was a definite risk that this could have been picked up by others as a genuine advert (well done to whoever doctored it for their photoshop skills.)
I would not moderate a comment such as "Maybe the headline should have read.....", accompanied by the original advert, - clear then that it's an opinion, not a misrepresentation of the school's advert.

I can see where you're coming from as a moderator because it is such a huge responsibility.I suppose you have to guess and decide whether the original poster was 'having a laugh' in the context of all parents who pay fees joke about the hardship even though they choose to do it or if it was a snipe at CH particularly which undermines its reputation and therefore brings it into disrepute.

What an interesting thread this turned out to be!

I'm a member of this forum and one other (a local one for expats in Hua Hin). They are very different. The moderators here have very little need to interfere (and long may that be the case).
The Thailand forum can get quite heated occasionally, and the mods need to step in.
The bottom line, of course, is that this is effectively Julian's forum. It's largely a benevolent dictatorship. I don't mean that in any way unkindly, but he started it, he runs it, he makes the rules and he invites people to be moderators to see that those rules are respected.
I imagine that must be the case with any forum started by an individual. If it grew to the extent that it became unwieldy things might change, but that's unlikely with a site like this.

Ordinarily I'd disagree with the sort of editing that took place earlier, but in this case the OP was being disingenuous. A satirist would have made it clear that this was a deliberate 'joke', but the OP chose to claim he'd come across it as it was. A shame, because he could have made his (perhaps valid) point so much more effectively with just a little... moderation.

It's a fine line, but I think this forum has demonstrated on plenty of occasions that it is not a question of "my school, right or wrong".

Unless the content reflects different views, and, sometimes, infuriating ones ---- then it becomes banal !
"Notorious" is not an epithet which is easily achieved, and has been a lifetime's work.

Some of us can, also, be conservative (Note the small "c" !) and I,for one, tend to the opinion of "My School --- right or wrong"
