Last week, Marmite was with "Jam" and we never DID find Pecan nuts !!

Does this happen in Sainsburi's -- if so, why ?

It's an old marketing ploy to get you to buy more.

As you walk round looking for what you want, which has been moved, you see things you 'might' have forgotton to put on your shopping-list !!

It's an old marketing ploy to get you to buy more.

As you walk round looking for what you want, which has been moved, you see things you 'might' have forgotton to put on your shopping-list !!

This 'ploy' has made me give up and go elsewhere before now!

It's the same ploy as as putting the milk as far from the main door as possible so you can't just pop in for a pint/litre/carton of milk!

If anyone in Sainsbury's says anything like

"Aisle 21 Sir, at the lower shelves "

then they aren't doing their job properly, they have to accompany the customer to the product and, theoretically, put the product into the customer's hand and then ask if there is anything else they can help with. There are mystery shopper scores which are linked to the annual bonus at store level. We don't just like to stalk you across the shop :p Demand the best service and you will get it and if not complain. 'Getting better every day', as we say I've taken customers all the way round the shop before, carrying the basket, suggesting things, showing them how to use self-scan.. &c.

Agree with the reasoning, but just be strong :p Also you missed the 'bag' of milk option which are great until they leak Everywhere!

Elsewhere on the net there is a table of the times at which staff in the top 5 supermarkets reduce prices with a modest reduction at 11 am in one store but up to 70% late in the afternoon at ?

Another "off" placement; canned tomatoes are not close to canned vegetables but they are not close to canned fruit either. I use a lot of pectin but that has been in home baking (wow!) and spices and also in a different place. Lemon juice is another - big bottles in baking and the small lemon shaped containers far away - at the same time in the same store.

I know this might seem annoying, out-of-date, a bit stupid and naive, but.... oh well!

I don't often get to do a big shop, as we're on a strict budget - but a trip around the terrific Sainsbury's, Pinhoe, Exeter, is a brilliant treat for me! The magnificence of the piled high displays, the colour, the bustle, the incredibly helpful staff! My husband asked where he could find a toothbrush (of a delightful man arranging a display of something else). I had to restrain this assistant from escorting us across the shop in the kindest way.... How nice he was.

I've had a go at the DIY checkout. I loved it! Beep, beep, beep!

I'm always grateful that I have the opportunity and access to such selections and diversity of delicious food. I never want to take it for granted. Maybe I'm at the age when I feel more acutely for those in life who don't have much at all.

Food shopping - and at Sainsbury's! Lovely. Go, Ben!

Coles and Woolworths (the South Australian equivalent) locate the packets with 'health' foods, such as manuka honey, psyllium, polenta, Goji berries.

I was briefly tempted to make some for dinner, but it's too hot to stand over a frying pan.

They're on the highest shelf, next to the tubs of olives, sun-dried tomatoes & fresh, unusual salad-mixes; the coleslaw, potato salads etc., are underneath.

I have to go by bus to the nearest health food shop though to get my fine & medium oatmeal for baking - Sainsbury's doesn't stock it at all, not even under "health"!

Ring that number if you want a product stocked in your nearest store! That way the request gets logged centrally, and the manager of the store gets asked if they want to stock it. Same number for any complaints, suggestions, anything like that :p

I'd follow any call up with a letter to the manager. Also if you receive good, like really good, service from a 'colleague' in-store, please write in and say, because we can then reward that person with a Shining Star award (£10 voucher basically). Breaks the monotony and cheers everyone up for a few days We all wear name badges, including us team leaders and managers, so you know who you've been speaking to :p

Ben... I've, like, got this passion for mangoes. Is there a dedicated mango-ripening temperature-adjusted area in the Fruit Storage facility, where a mango expert performs a daily analysis and labels them Ready-To-Eat? I seem to be really unlucky in finding mangoes that aren't cannonball solid! Oh, how I love them! (But not the variety Tommy Atkins. Tommy Atkins must be the most fibrous mango.)
