OH, COME ON !
U.S.A. have improved dramatically of late, and we weren't at all bad.
OK, the number 2 keeper made ONE blinding mistake, but nots let get too disparaging.

Watching the other matches it is clear the ball is light and doesn't do exactly what heavier ball might, so Green is excused.

Re: Come On England!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL the teams in the World Cup have had oodles of time to adjust to the new ball.
It is fractionally lighter, and lightly ribbed on two sides. (aero-dynamics).
The only major difference, which ALL teams have seemed to fail to grasp, (and I include Frank Lampard in this), is that it will stay 'up' longer, almost appearing to hang before dropping.
This becomes especially apparent on taking free-kicks and penalties.

It would be interesting to find out the comparative fuel consumption per person. Personally I can't quite understand the appeal of driving round in circles at breakneck speed for two hours, with disintegrating tyres & bits falling off your car, while the other guys are trying to push you off the track! But there you go, chacun a son gout as they used to say. We have it on, but I can't say I'm watching, so much as putting up with the whining of engines & gabble of commentators while I sew. My other half dozed off briefly & he's the aficionado!Fjgrogan wrote:I am sure that all your comments about motor racing and the environment are correct, but on a lesser scale I don't imagine that football fans flying to South Africa from all over the world have done much for the environment either
Back to footie: if England can't beat Algeria then they may as well fly home on Friday night.

So long as each individual pays his/her own fare. I do remember when one team had to postpone returning home because of the lynch mobs waiting for them. ISTR that the manager had to emigrateanniexf wrote: Back to footie: if England can't beat Algeria then they may as well fly home on Friday night.
Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

Didn't a Venezuelan footballer get shot dead last World Cup, or the one before, for allegedly committing the fault (missing a penalty?) that put their team out?sejintenej wrote:

Either Venezuelan or Colombian but I was actually referring to Brasil! Working in a Brazilian company I learned a few new (unrepeatable) wordsanniexf wrote:Didn't a Venezuelan footballer get shot dead last World Cup, or the one before, for allegedly committing the fault (missing a penalty?) that put their team out?sejintenej wrote:

On behalf of motor racing, I must say how refreshing it was to hear two young Englishmen - Hamilton & Button - speaking so courteously & intelligently. How very different from many of our barely-literate/articulate national footie team!Fjgrogan wrote:Never mind all this football rubbish (sorry 'soccer' if you are American) - what about the Canadian Grand Prix this afternoon, with Lewis Hamilton in pole position..... I rest my case!
And they only needed to play the national anthem once, because both winning driver(s) and team were British. Incidentally Lewis is now leading the drivers' championship again.

The National Anthem is played first for the country of the winning driver, and then for the Country of origin of the car/team.
