Does your own school not have a web-site or association of former pupils ?Surely that is where you should be looking for friends - at least you would have experiences in common....

No, my school has a web site and that's it, and by friends, I meant friends from this forum that I could chat to and learn about CH, not drinking partners or meet-up type friends.

I thought only spotty adolescents indulged in purely "cyber-friendships" -personally, if I were not so far away, I'd be down the pub regularly with my former OBs...
but that just me, of course...

Too true, Barbara!
The internet is not really the place to go looking for 'friends'. I've met (in real life) a fair number of people from this forum. They've all been very nice, and I've really enjoyed their company, but I would not presume to call them 'friends', as I don't really know them and they don't really know me. Friendships take time, I'm afraid.

I don't mean to offend anyone but on reading a lot of your past comments to me they are generally written in a 'take the p*ss' type of attitude. I am only here to try and make some friends and learn about CH, not to be ridiculed.
Shoz,
Richard is the same with everyone but it is more noticeable with you because of your unique position on the forum, being neither an Old Blue nor a member of staff at the School. That comment is intended as an observation not a criticism.
One of the functions of this forum is to bring Old Blues of all ages together and banter, so long as it is not personally abusive, is an excellent way of doing this.
Richard,
so much for your New Year's Resolution.

So is that OB's and teachers to the exclusion of everyone else?

Who, other than you, mentioned excluding everyone else?
Julian and others, including me, have expressly stated that we welcome you but it is a FACT that your position is unique.

"All pupils, families, staff, Old Blues and anyone else related to CH "
it's at the top of every page..... fairly clear, I would think ....
It's like the big-cats cage at the zoo, if you're not one and you still go in, then what happens is mektoub

Sorry - but I find it a very bad reflection on the place where I live and work when I see grown people having such petty arguments over who can and who cannot join in on this forum. It`s a PUBLIC FORUM for heaven`s sake!!!
Or do people just want to foster the idea that CH is one big clique??

and , yes, i know I don`t have to read posts if I don`t want to........but perhaps someone should start a new thread for this GREAT DEBATE and then everyone can post their comments there instead of turning so many interesting threads into a slanging match.
Sorry - just had to be said.
(but then I`m not an Old Blue so my opinion is irrelevant!!

That's not what Mid A 15 meant, and you know it.
There are current pupils here (sometimes...), other members of the C.H. community, and a few parents who look in from time to time.
Because some people (myself included) find your level of interest a bit strange, it really doesn't mean that anyone wants this forum to be 'exclusive'. Rather the opposite, I would say.
You really don't get it, do you? I don't know how often this needs saying, but it's not the interest itself that's being questioned, it's the extent and urgency of that interest, and it's certainly not a personal attack on you, Shoz.
As Julian once mentioned, most Old Blues (and others involved with C.H.)would be happy to witter on endlessly about the school, its history, customs, etc., for as long as the listener could stay awake! We, by and large,
welcome people's interest.
My personal feeling is that if Rock School had been filmed at, say, QEH Bristol, however interesting I found the programme I would not launch myself onto their alumni website, or try to get on mailing lists for publications which are written for and aimed at those alumni. I'm pretty sure that not many others would, either (although I would not presume to speak for anyone else).
THAT'S what some people find unsettling, not the interest generated by the programme in people like yourself.
It looks like we'll all just have to live with our differing opinions on this.

and at least shoz has given details in his profile- which is more than can be said for the majority of members! Does anyone know who they are?

After a bit of pestering, yes!
Othewise, Janet, I wholeheartedly agree about this.
