We may well be going off topic, but I well remember sitting waiting to give evidence in a particular magistrates court.

In the dock was a gentleman (?) who had been charged with what we now refer to as child-molestation. He was sporting an obviously badly damaged face.

"How did you come by those injuries ?" Asked the magistrate.

'The arresting officer hit me with his truncheon yer honor' !" came the reply.

Arresting officer now is called into the box.

"Did you hit him with your truncheon, Officer ?" The magistrates asks.

"Yes Sir, I did. He was resisting arrest."

"I was under the impression the use of a truncheon to be restricted to arms and legs ?" comments the magistrate.

"It is Sir. - Yes"

"Then how do you account for the accused having facial injuries, constable ?"

"He ducked, Your Worship !"

Ha Ha JR!

Sorry Vonny, no , but that doesn't mean much - my memory is lousey. I'm constantly amazed by the detailed memories that others on this forum seem to retain over 20, 30 , 40 years and more (neill!). I do remember the other names you mentioned, though - Lindsay, Muir, Robinson....and Higgins! :backtotopic:

I assume this Higgins is the son of the Chemi teacher known as PFH Peter and onetime housemaster of Thorn B and then another after merger?

Thought Dad could have given his osn a chemical concoction!

I am sure there was some connection between Dr Cohen & BaB - or maybe I am imagining that  Maybe she just helped out every so often :?
Can you remember the name of our matron? I can picture her but can't remember her name at all.

My Policeman Daddy said that whenever a real "Nasty" was arrested (Child abuse, attacking old people etc..)
They invariably "Resisted arrest" on the way to the Police Station. Couldn't happen nowadays could it ?
Could it ?
Case on the TV recently where some do-gooders were monitoring the geezers in black coveralls (ie not uniform) who were monitoring a meeting from the sidelines but not actively involved. The geezers claimed to be police but had no ID numbers and refused to disclose them; everything was videotaped and the tape shown on TV. . Eventually the do-gooders were arrested and charged with obstructing the police. They were released a few days later but no doubt ran up considerable costs in legal fees, lost / damaged equipment, loss of earnings, transport home from the wilds of who knows where ......... Yes - it could happen now.

As for JR's reply - what he doesn't say is that some solicitors are better than others and some are a definite liability to somebody. In fact the largest fraud ever attempted on my branch (several hundreds of millions of USD) was fed through a firm of solicitors. Because we spotted it the police couldn't have take action against them.

He has just announced his retirement...

Now that Rixchards scandal has resulted in deano being banned for 3 years. How sad to see the great Deano reduced to a cheat...

Very sad about Richards..would never have thought he would carry out such dirty tactics! Quins were doing very well last season on their own merit.

As for Andy, it seems it was the only thing he could do. shame though
