A short news report on ITV News at 17:10 hrs.
Apparently, they both fell to their death on Mont Blanc.
Tragic.

It was a huge shock to hear the news about James and Rob, I still can't quite believe what's happened. My thoughts are with both families and everyone who knew them. I'm hoping that the school might consider holding a service for Old Blues to come and pay tribute, it would be a lovely thing to do at a place where we knew them both.

I echo the need to find closure in a service in the Chapel at CH, hoping that the Powers That Be would allow it. Albeit many years older, and female to boot, I would attend if I could. The loss of these two young lives is unbearable.

The whole thing has been hoorendous- I had a call from my sister at 11.40pm on Saturday night - I knew both Rob and James as young scouts and I knew Louise and Kate very well from school. I feel especially for Kate, Harriet and their mum, as they only in the last 4 or 5 years lost their dad as well.

Amazing!
I was just walking speedily through Tiverton on my way to work in Exeter when I encountered a group of (fit blokes) Blue-clad cyclists taking a brief stop. Their teeshirts bore the message "Rob and James - onemilecloser -"
This is a fund-raising trip - Blues are cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.
Of course I stopped in my tracks and squeaked excitedly ""Our" Rob and James?"
I identified myself as an Old Girl.
Imagine my excitement at being introduced to all these fabulous guys!
A photograph was taken. I have every hope of getting onto the blog of their progress, pressed closely to a Mexican colleague cyclist - so kind of him! Just what one needs first thing in the morning....
Go, onemilecloser!

Kate Atkinson was one of the cyclists and a good friend of mine at school - well done her!
