Federer is rather special and will go down as an all time great so that excuses this year but Marty does have a point.

A few years back at Wimbledon Henman had match point against Ivanisevich (? spelling - you know who I mean though!) and choked. That is the most blatant of many examples throughout his long career.

Henman reminds me of the golfer Colin Montgomerie except that his bra size is smaller

I could never understand why the press gave him such a bad time.

At least he had the guts to thrown himself of the end of the ski-slope. That's more than I would ever do !

Sad I know, but my 14 year old son and I say "Shapey Head" to this day when we see Timorous Timmy on TV and others who are cranially challenged; I don't remember "Crater Head" either but "Shapey Head" had to be semi-sung in a slightly strangled voice - still does...

CJ you are entitled to like him - I'm sure that behind his bland exterior there's an exciting person trying to get out! But surely you must recognise that Tim has spent the majority of his career pitted against superior opposition? In other words he hasn't really cut the mustard. If he were doing a normal job and recorded same amount of failure as he does playing tennis he'd have been given his P45 ages ago...

'Britain' currently has 3 reasonable tennis players. 1) Andrew Wotsit who is Scottish 2) Greg Doodah who is Canadian and 3) Our Tim. His career is bound to be under the spotlight during the Wimbledon tournament. If he wasn't any good, he wouldn't have got through to this stage. And why is he bland? Because he is polite, not arrogant and can string a sentence together unlike some of the morons in the football team? I'll take that any day.

You don't get seeded at Wimbledon and into the final 8 (of all the people who play tennis in the world) by being useless. It just means he is not THE BEST.

It really annoys me when men (and it is usually men) who haven't done a minutes sport in the last 30 years lay on the sofa,beer in hand, and say that sportsmen are 'useless'.

I am not pointing the finger at anyone on here (I don't know how much exercise you take) but my husband rang at 11.04 tonight for a lift home from the station, half a mile away omn perhaps one of the best nights of the year for walking.

Ah Mary, it WAS a new moon so it would have been very dark - unless you have plenty of street lights.

I quite agree with you about Tim, just haven't got around to saying so here. It cannot be easy carryine the hopes of the nation year after year.

We do have plenty of streetlights AND he was with daughter and you wouldn't want to bump into her on a dark night. She walks 3 miles each day to school and back.

He should use a bicycle

It's fast, healthy and then he doesn't have to bother you for a lift

I exercise quite regularly, except on Thursdays when, as you might be aware by now, my gym only allows women in. Why has this now turned into an 'anti-men' discussion? We criticise one mediocre sportsman and all of a sudden all men are lazy couch potatoes! The point I was trying to make is that Tim has never won anything of any consequence and he is quite bland as well. Overall his career has been one of failure. People mention Federer who is brilliant but he's only been on the scene for 4 or 5 years. Tim's been around for 10 or 11 but never managed to win a major tournament before Federer. Anyone who wants to say England's footballers are no better are right. Most of them are bland and rubbish in tournaments as well!!!

What Mary and I have tried to say is that Tim is NOT a mediocre sportsman, he has made a lot of money from his career in tennis. True he has never won one of the major tennis tournaments but he has won a lot of those one rank below. He reached the top 10 in the world in his sport, hardly mediocre in my opinion. Each year he has gone to Wimbledon as the great white hope of Britain which cannot have helped him perform at his best. Yes, he may be bland and home counties, but we don't all have the verbal abilities (?) of John McEnroe.

It's not anti-men at all, just the couch potatoes who think they can tell the sportsmen how to play. You would never find a woman (like me -a couch potato- for example) telling other people how to play a game.

And hunter.. a BIKE(?) for half a mile?

I don't think Tim is weak, as I said weak people do not make it to the last 8 of Wimbledon.
