Time is an American magazine and the Americans have lauded Saddam, Milosevic and Ceaucescu each in their turn. To give them their due though, they do help them to rearm before dropping bombs on them - fair's fair after all.eloisec wrote:Adolf Hitler was Time's Man of the Year for 1938marty wrote:One of Adolf Hitler's school reports from his teacher remarked that Hitler was...'bad tempered and fancied himself as a leader.'
French letters one side, corks the other should do the trick.Richard Ruck wrote:A simple solution, surely, would be to raise one's naughty bits above the surface of the river before passing water.
and you didn't see a single mosquito breeding in it; they cannot because it has too much peat. For those who haven't been, Manaus is not on the Amazon river but on it's subsidiary Rio Negro which is big enough for ocean going vessels.Tim_MaA_MidB wrote:I swam in the Rio Negro nearly every day when I was there,
Corks was an excellent swimmer as well as being a good choirmaster. We used to bathe in the river Arun at Madrigal Camp. However, I am not sure that he ever wrote any French letters. Noel "Sam" Sargent probably did - but then he was French anyway.sejintenej wrote:French letters one side, corks the other should do the trick.Richard Ruck wrote:A simple solution, surely, would be to raise one's naughty bits above the surface of the river before passing water.
He had an excellent memory for which bars were open at what time and ably demonstrated how he could legally drink 24 hours a day in London whilst being deacon or similr in St Paul's Cathedral; my kidneys were not to happy.DavebytheSea wrote:Corks was an excellent swimmer as well as being a good choirmaster. well, not peat exactly, but it is very acidic and there are very few mossies (hardly any malaria as a consequence). Only a few miles away there is the Solimoes river ... around there you will be swarmed by mossies.sejintenej wrote:and you didn't see a single mosquito breeding in it; they cannot because it has too much peat.
Vegetarian teetotaler?? A good thing?? - we evolved to eat meat, and hence should eat meat.Laura M wrote:Adolt Hitler was in fact a fantastic boss, vegetarian teetotaler, compare that to an alcoholic womaniser (Churchill).
Adolf Hitler also survived six months as a runner during WW1 when the average life expectancy of such a person was 2 days

What about one carrying the hollowed husk of a coconut? Or would the weight ratio be too high for it to maintain sufficient air speed velocity?jtaylor wrote:The estimated average cruising airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles an hour

A fantastic boss to whom precisely? The fact that he was nice to his secretaries may not entirely militate his actions as leader towards his own (non-Jewish) countryman which resulted in vast numbers of them dying, whether on the Eastern Front, in attempting to hold on to Northern France or as the Allies advanced through Germany when he refused to surrender and so many of his population died unnecessarily. Or perhaps you are referring to the slave labourers who he also forced to work for him? Or maybe you are referring to the direct control he took of the German Armed Forces, overriding his Generals, and again wasting hundreds of thousands of lives? I'd rather have worked for Churchill any day!Laura M wrote:Adolt Hitler was in fact a fantastic boss, vegetarian teetotaler, compare that to an alcoholic womaniser (Churchill).
